Facilities & Technical Projects Manager

Edmonton, Alberta
Senior Level
full_time

About the role

THE COMPANY

One of the premier Canadian manufacturers of building material products for the residential, commercial and industrial sectors. We are a private, family-owned business with more than 60 years of proprietary designs and innovations in the industry. Our manufacturing facility is supported by our satellite Branch facilities, then distributed nationwide through our dealership partners coast-to-coast represented in every province across Canada.

We are conveniently located in Edmonton, Alberta and are looking for a hardworking, dedicated, and loyal individual to join our team. We pride ourselves on being one of the flagship branches within our organization.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on, and solutions-driven Facilities & Technical Projects Manager to oversee the full spectrum of facility operations, infrastructure planning, and technical project delivery at our overhead door manufacturing facility. A key member of the facilities leadership team, this individual will play a central role in maintaining operational continuity while also being key to innovation through process improvement, custom equipment development, and capital investment.

This role is ideal for a technically curious, mechanically inclined professional who enjoys problem-solving, building and modifying machinery, and collaborating across departments. The ideal candidate will need to be familiar with cold metal roll forming, spring manufacturing, and autonomous polyurethane foam insulation production, along with an integral working knowledge of the tool and die shop, milling machines, and custom manufacturing techniques — in steel, aluminum and plastics.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage all plant infrastructure systems, including electrical, mechanical, HVAC, compressed air, dust collection, and building structures.
  • Lead capital projects related to facility upgrades, equipment installation, utility expansion, and production floor redesigns.
  • Support tool and die operations by providing insight into die maintenance, machining needs, and layout considerations; assist with development of new tools and fixturing as needed.
  • Provide hands-on technical support in the setup, maintenance, and optimization of milling machines and custom-built equipment.
  • Interpret and contribute to engineering and construction drawings for building modifications, production layouts, and machinery designs.
  • Oversee continuous polyurethane roll-forming production infrastructure, with specific attention to chemical handling, safety compliance, and equipment reliability.
  • Work with the maintenance and production teams to repair, modify, and build custom manufacturing machines , often requiring innovative, non-standard solutions.
  • Lead the preventive and predictive maintenance program using CMMS and reliability planning tools.
  • Collaborate closely with the production, millwrights and production teams to troubleshoot operational issues and implement sustainable, cost-effective solutions.
  • Manage external vendors and contractors for facility services, equipment procurement, and construction projects.
  • Track and report on facility performance KPIs such as uptime, energy use, maintenance costs, and capital project ROI, in the companies proprietary ERP system.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • 10+ years of experience in facilities, technical operations, or plant engineering in a manufacturing setting, ideally in metals or heavy industry.
  • Strong working knowledge of milling machines , toolroom operations, and die shop workflows.
  • Experience with cold roll forming, spring manufacturing, and fabrication of steel-based components.
  • Familiarity with custom machine development , mechanical troubleshooting, and plant-level process improvements.
  • Experience leading and delivering capital projects involving new equipment, infrastructure, or facility expansion.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering, architectural, and mechanical drawings.
  • Strong understanding of foam insulation production processes and related chemical safety practices.
  • CMMS knowledge and experience implementing maintenance strategies and equipment reliability programs.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, coach technical staff, and manage vendor relationships.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills; comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
  • Post-secondary education in mechanical, industrial, or facilities engineering preferred.
  • Red Seal trade certification or equivalent technical background considered a strong asset.
