Open Door Group (ODG), a trailblazing non-profit organization serving communities across Canada, is looking for Employment Specialists to join our team!
Open Door Group is looking to expand our employment services team in Calgary, Alberta. This role is subject to funding approval, and we welcome interested applicants in advance of funding confirmation.
Salary: starting rate $30.00 to $31.00 per hour
Status: Full-Time, Permanent
Hours of Work: 36 Hours per week
Location: The primary work location for this position will be in-person, in our new office located in Calgary, Alberta (Downtown/Beltline area).
Anticipated Number of positions: 2
Anticipated Start Date: August 5, 2025
Your Role:
The Employment Specialist is responsible for guiding clients through their entire employment journey, from initial intake to sustained employment. The role encompasses delivering and coordinating comprehensive career development services, including career assessments, skill development, job search assistance, disability supports, and post-placement support.
This role will be focused on supporting clients using the In Motion & Momentum+ (IM&M+), an innovative, evidence-based program designed to help individuals who face complex, long-standing barriers reconnect with their sense of purpose, confidence, and direction. Successful candidates are expected to come to the role with experience in designing and delivering engaging group programs using adult learning and experiential facilitation techniques, however will receive on-the-job training in IM&M+.

What you bring to the position:
- Career Development Expertise: Proficient in conducting client assessments, developing individualized employment service plans, and delivering one-on-one employment counselling and coaching. Strong knowledge of job search strategies, career development theory, employment barriers, and accommodations for individuals with disabilities.
- Group Facilitation & Program Delivery: Experienced in designing and delivering engaging group programs using adult learning and experiential facilitation techniques. Able to foster a positive, inclusive environment that supports skill development, motivation, and peer learning.
- Labour Market & Community Knowledge: Well-versed in local labour market trends, in-demand occupations, and community-based wraparound supports to help clients access appropriate services and opportunities.
- Communication & Relationship Building: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse clients, employers, and partners. Skilled in conflict resolution, diplomacy, and fostering collaborative relationships.
- Technical & Digital Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office, databases, and standard office equipment. Comfortable using digital platforms to communicate and deliver virtual or hybrid programming. Strong typing skills and attention to detail in documentation and reporting.
- Organizational & Time Management: Able to manage a high-volume caseload, meet deadlines, and adapt to shifting priorities while maintaining a high standard of client-centered service.
- Teamwork & Initiative: Able to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative, flexibility, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Committed to the mission, vision, and values of Open Door Group.
Key Qualifications:
- Diploma in Social Sciences or a relevant discipline
- Recent, related experience of three (3) years, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a helping profession supporting individuals with disabilities and complex barriers
Additional Qualifications
- IM&M+ certification (can be acquired after hire)
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training (can be acquired after hire)
- Mental Health First Aid Training (can be acquired after hire)
- Motivational Interviewing Training and Certification considered an asset
- Trauma-Informed Practice Training and Certification are considered an asset
- CCDP Certification is considered an asset
- May require a valid Alberta driver’s license and use of a personal motor vehicle during working hours
- Must maintain a satisfactory criminal record, including a vulnerable sector check
