The location in Montreal, (Quebec, Canada), is seeking talent to fill the position of Senior Accountant - General Accounting. This job is full-time permanent.

Overview: Reporting to the Manager, General Accounting, you will assist the Manager in the day-to-day activities, month end, quarter end, year-end process, analysis of overhead expenses for Paper and Packaging business unit as well as the allocation of overhead expenses and shared services onto the business units. In addition, you will assist the General Accounting Manager in the process of budgeting and forecasting for Paper & Packaging business unit overhead expenses.

Your challenges:

  • Perform activities related to period-end closing for the proper accounting of overhead expenses and ensure that the related deadlines are met.
  • Identify provisions required to comply with accounting procedures.
  • Analyze accounting activities and financial reports related to overhead expenses shared services.
  • Provide financial support to managers for the analysis of business unit overheads under their responsibility.
  • Participate in accounting activities relating to quarterly forecasts, the annual budget exercise as well as the allocation process.
  • Participate and manage the cost tracking and budgeting of major capital strategic projects for the respective business units.
  • Assist in the next steps of the integration and harmonization work previously identified and performed by the business unit’s teams involved in the accounting and analysis of integrated overhead expenses.
  • Support the tax department on the R&D activities by providing accurate spending reports and supporting documentation
  • Oversee the global overhead presentation for Domtar.
  • Oversee the work of the accountant of the department.
  • Oversee ad hoc analysis requests related to overhead costs and ensure that these requests meet the needs for decision-making by the respective Domtar business leaders.

Your profile:

  • Bilingual French and English (Required for all Corporate Positions)*
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and a professional designation (CPA) would be an asset.
  • 5 years of experience in an accounting position, preferably in a large company.
  • Knowledge of SAP (FI/CO) is a definite asset.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office is required, including advanced Excel.
  • Possibility of overtime during peak full stops or projects.
