Technical Strategic Principal - Strategy Expert
Number of positions: 1 Job Location: Edmonds B03
Employment type: Permanent Region: Lower Mainland
Hours of work: Full-time (37.5 hrs/wk) Flexible Work Role: Hybrid
Annual salary: $ 155,000.00 - 196,000.00
What you'll do
This role reports to the Senior Manager, Joint Use & Shared Assets and is responsible for providing strategic, technical, and
operational leadership relating to the day-to-day use, management, and administration of joint use poles.

Lead and participate in joint use committees.

Advocate for BC Hydro’s interests, while managing within BC Hydro’s values and standards of conduct. Advocate for the
other parties interest within BC Hydro, where appropriate.

Solution oriented approach with clear understanding of risks, precedence, and terms of joint use agreements.
-
Point person for all joint use operational issues / escalations. Immediate resolution of key issues (drive process for
resolution internally, included to executive levels as required). Identify strategic underlying issues and root causes including
developing recommendations and action plans.
- Develop and maintain strong overall relations and trust with external counterparts in context of each organization’s
priorities and interests which do not always align.

Oversight of joint use initiatives. Long term resolution of technical, standards, field operations, and safety issues.

Work closely with staff to set priorities and metrics.

Set IT vision and priorities related to joint use functions
-
BC Hydro subject matter expert for any issues related to telecommunications attachments / or potential implications
related to changes to overhead distribution plant (Work Methods, Safety, Standards, Distribution Engineering, Design,
Asset Management, planning, BC Hydro Telecommunications etc.).

Complex intercompany / intergroup change management.

Process mapping / process improvement / process adherence.
-
Driving key special projects which are often politically/externally sensitive and high risk and require stakeholder
management and coordination with multiple groups.
What you bring
-
Degree or diploma in a field such as Engineering, Finance, or other related discipline.
-
Ten or more years of related experience in fields of expertise within an electric or telecommunication utility or similar
environment.
-
Experience with and/or strong understanding of joint use of utility assets is preferred.
-
Proven leadership ability.
-
Excellent communication, facilitation, negotiation and interpersonal skills
.
-
Excellent planning, organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills.
-
Ability to maintain effective relationships while managing conflict.
-
Ability to recognize or anticipate issues and resolve before they are escalated.
-
Strong technical aptitude and understanding of electric and joint use standards, practices, and processes related to the
overhead distribution system.
- Experience interpreting complex legal agreements, including the ability to apply to real world situations fairly and
consistently.
