The Outreach and Engagement Specialist, Applied Politics, leads recruitment, outreach, and promotional activities for the Applied Politics program. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining partnerships with schools, political organizations, and community groups; coordinating and attending recruitment events; and supporting prospective students throughout the enrollment journey. The Outreach and Engagement Specialist also plays a key role in advancing the department’s visibility, generating interest in the program, and building relationships with diverse stakeholder groups.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, organize, and attend trade shows, career fairs, and outreach events across Alberta and Canada to promote the Applied Politics program.
  • Proactively identify and pursue new recruitment opportunities, including partnerships with high schools, community organizations, and political groups.
  • Create engaging social media and digital assets in collaboration with the Marketing team to support program promotion.
  • Conduct needs assessments to understand prospective students’ goals, and provide guidance on program fit, financial aid options, and career pathways.
  • Guide prospective students through the application and enrollment process, including support with student aid documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of prospective student interactions, recruitment activity, and enrollment progress using CRM systems and reporting tools.
  • Stay informed on political trends, student recruitment strategies, and educational regulations to inform planning and outreach.
  • Represent the Applied Politics department at external meetings and networking opportunities to promote the program and build institutional relationships.

Qualifications:

  • Education: A diploma or certificate in communications, marketing, public relations, political science, or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will also be considered.
  • Experience:
  • Experience in recruitment, outreach, stakeholder engagement, or event planning.
  • Experience working in a post-secondary or education-related setting is preferred.
  • Familiarity with CRM platforms, student services, or community engagement is an asset.
  • Knowledge of politics, current events, or public affairs is considered an asset.

Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with an ability to connect with a wide range of audiences.
  • Strong stakeholder relationship management in educational and community contexts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint; comfort with CRM platforms and social media tools.
  • Creative ability to develop outreach content and promotional materials.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple outreach initiatives simultaneously.
  • Cultural competence and experience working with diverse populations.
  • Confident public speaker and enthusiastic program ambassador.
  • Self-starter with strong initiative, follow-through, and adaptability.
