Finning is seeking a customer-focused Parts Apprentice (2nd or 3rd Year) - Field to support our customers in the Oil Sands. During your apprenticeship, the successful applicant will work closely with a Parts/Warehouse job shadow to learn all aspects of the business, including Supply Chain/Warehousing, Procurement, Transportation, Warranty, Cores and Credits, and Parts Sales Front Counter and Shop.
The ideal candidate would possess previous experience in sales, warehouse, parts, or the heavy-duty equipment field. Job Description:
Roles and Responsibilities
- Accurately pick, pack, and deliver Caterpillar and non-Caterpillar parts to customer locations.
- Perform regular inventory counts, manage stock levels, and ensure timely ordering and replenishment of parts.
- Assist in the setup of new Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) areas and maintain cleanliness, organization, and efficiency in existing areas.
- Serve as a backup for the field warehouse located at the customer site, including coverage of both day and night shifts as required.
- Complete Pre-Task Assessments (PTAs) and actively promote Finning’s safety-first culture in all tasks and interactions.
- Educate and support customers in the use of Finning’s digital platforms such as CUBIQ and PCC to enhance service efficiency and transparency.
- Maintain the VMI truck in clean and operational condition. Complete and log monthly vehicle inspections.
- Source both Cat and non-Cat parts, manage backorders, and communicate effectively with stakeholders to minimize downtime.
- Complete tasks as assigned by Supervisor or Management in a timely and professional manner.
- Collaborate in the employee evaluation process by providing constructive feedback and insights from your apprenticeship experience.
Qualifications
- Successful completion of grade 12.
- Must have completed the first period of Parts Technician apprenticeship training (eligible for Second-Year position).
- Second Year Parts Ticket is an asset, with willingness to complete the Parts Apprenticeship Program.
- Highly motivated, mechanically inclined, with ability to function effectively with minimal supervision in a dynamic team environment.
- Strong team orientation with excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Demonstrates a high-performance mindset, positive attitude, and the ability to foster respectful working relationships.
- Enthusiastic about their work and capable of thriving in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Skilled in handling challenging situations and interacting professionally with dissatisfied customers.
- Previous parts or warehouse experience, Forklift, Crane, and Rigging certifications (or willingness to obtain), and First Aid certification are assets.
- Experience with DBS, ANTARES, AIMS, SIS, HIS, SIMSi, InfoCast, Lawson M3, Landmark Smart Office, M3 Sales Automation, and Microsoft Office Suite will be considered assets.
- Valid driver’s license with the ability to operate an F550 flat deck truck daily.
- Must successfully pass all site-required screenings and be eligible to access all operational sites; no site restrictions or bans.
- Must be clean-shaven to meet site access requirements.
NOTE
Candidate selection will be in compliance with the terms of the current collective agreement. Please note that any future shift changes that may occur will be made in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Collective Agreement.
Union Membership: You are required to become a member of the Union associated with this position. This will be effective immediately and will result in union dues being deducted from your pay. The terms and conditions of your employment will be governed by the collective agreement.
