About the role

Adams Lake Indian Band is seeking an Elders Worker to work under the direction of the Adams Lake Band’s Le7 r Knucten, or designate, as well as closely working with the Elder Coordinator. You will be responsible for the collaborative planning and implementation of the social, recreational, cultural activities of the Gleneden (IR6) Elders programs of the Adams Lake Indian Band.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Adams Lake Indian Band policies and procedures.
  • Develops rapport and relationships with the community and various external agencies.
  • Liaises and communicates with Supervisor and Health & Wellness Team to coordinate activities and required services.
  • Promotes a safe and healthy environment for Elders and families.
  • Oversees the elders involved in various social and recreational activities.
  • Research regional and community events and activities that are appropriate for elders.
  • Develops a monthly calendar of various recreational activities, including a weekly Elder exercise program for elder well-being.
  • Coordinates and facilitates appropriate and safe transportation for elder activities.
  • Weekly phone calls/check ins with all Elders, including off reserve
  • Conducts Elder home visits on reserve regularly

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS

  • Diploma in recreation or community wellness or equivalent
  • 2 years experience in program planning.
  • Experience in working with elders;
  • Experience in a First Nations environment ;
  • Good verbal and written communication skills;
  • Good organizational skills to achieve desired results;
  • Diplomacy, tact and confidentiality in dealing with a variety of people and information;
  • Possess strong computer skills using MS Office software;
  • Reliability and dependability;
  • Maintains the work area in a clean and professional manner.
  • Self motivated and an ability to work independently;
  • Good interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work in a team orientated environment;
  • Flexibility is a must to adapt to changing work priorities;
  • Good judgement and problem solving skills must be exercise at all times
  • Continuous learning;

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Those normally associated with a typical office environment. Continuous visual concentration on computer/laptop. Able to lift up to 20lbs to assist lifting wheelchairs or walkers.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Most work is performed in a typical office environment and outdoors.

Office – Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Camera and Camcorder

Valid BC Drivers License Class 4/5 (copy)

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Part time permanent position

Wage range: $25.00 - $29.00 per hour

Location: ALIB IR#6 - 2516 Pierre's Pt Rd NW, Salmon Arm, BC

Hours per week: up to maximum 48 hours bi-weekly (max 24 hrs./week), with flexibility in hours/days of work.
