The Opportunity:
Solvest is seeking a permanent 2nd or 3rd year Electrical Apprentice to join the Operations Department! Solvest electricians work on commercial and utility scale solar, battery and microgrid projects throughout the Yukon, Northwest Territories (NWT), and Nunavut. Electricians work directly with Solvest construction teams to install electrical systems of various sizes across Northern Canada.

The typical schedule includes seasonal full-time shift work, comprising 40 hours per week with frequent overtime. The role consists of out-of-town shift work, typically with rotations of 2 weeks, allowing you to explore beautiful Northern wilderness.

Employment Status: Full Time – 40 hours per week + frequent overtime during peak times

Wage: $25 - $38 per hour (based on level and experience) + frequent overtime + annual profit-sharing bonus based on company performance

Leave Entitlements: Two weeks of paid vacation to start (10 days) + 5 paid sick days per year

Job Description:
The chosen applicant will be trained and expected to perform the following tasks::

  • Conduct all electrical work, both conventional and renewable energy specific, in compliance with the current Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and applicable OHS regulations.
  • Work with the Solvest Operations Team to install renewable energy systems at commercial and utility scales, throughout Northern Canada.
  • Mentor and train installation teams.
  • Review electrical drawings and schematics with management prior to applying for permits.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctioning grid tied and off grid renewable energy systems.
  • Review drawings and schematics, obtain electrical permits in Solvest’s name, liaise with electrical inspectors, and apply for final inspections upon completion of permitted projects.
  • Commission commercial solar systems including online monitoring, system performance, safety, client understanding and awareness, and QA/QC.
  • Complete all work in a timely manner and notify the Electrical Superintendent of any delays that will take additional time to address.
  • Ensure the worksite is clean, organized, and safe at all times.
  • Be respectful and polite to clients, other contractors, and members of the community.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • Experience in commercial electrical is required.
  • Experience working on energized equipment is required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and pivot working priorities to meet multiple demands.
  • Ability to provide high levels of service consistently.
  • Experience in successfully negotiating solutions to complex problems.
  • Professional and respectful demeanor towards colleagues, clients and the public
  • Class 5 (or above) valid driver’s license with 3+ years of driving experience.
  • Previous solar experience would be considered an asset.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be willing to work at heights – Fall Arrest Training will be provided
  • Must be willing to travel and work in communities within and outside of Yukon
  • Must wear all required PPE
  • Valid driver’s license with at least 3 years of driving experience
  • Criminal Record Check
