About The Role The Maintenance Worker reports to the General Manager, Maintenance Manager or designate and is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance activities to support the efficient operation of the community. The Maintenance Worker assist in ensuring the safety and security of all persons served, staff and visitors.

Responsibilities Include but not limited to:

Regular Maintenance, Repairs And Building Improvements

  • Inspects, operating condition of all equipment and logs information daily, diagnose malfunctions and recommends replacements or upgrades to Manager.
  • Inspects alarm, call, and security systems and logs information daily.
  • Schedules and supervises service work in the absence of the Maintenance Manager.
  • Completes general repairs to electrical, plumbing and other building components appropriate with the capabilities of an experienced maintenance trade person.
  • Be available for emergency call-ins.
  • Maintains a painting/touch-up schedule.

Environmental Issues

  • Implements snow removal and de-icing program either directly or via a contractor as directed.
  • Support the pest control program.
  • Maintains organized and safe work and storage areas.

Fire & Life Safety

  • Assists in fire safety drills and complies with fire regulations.
  • Implements all repair and maintenance activities in a safe manner while abiding by appropriate Work Safe BC regulations.
  • Maintains a safe environment for residents, family and staff, through:
  • accident prevention,
  • knowledge of emergency procedures and regulations,
  • the safe use of supplies and equipment and reporting when repairs are necessary, and
  • Utilizing infection control procedures

Maintenance Management

  • Maintains a log entry of daily routines, general repairs, scheduled, and non-scheduled maintenance items on all equipment.
  • Provides support or instruction to staff that may be operating the community’s equipment.
  • Takes initiatives in gaining knowledge and skill relating to the maintenance position.
  • Actively participates in orientation of new staff, community programs, meetings, committees and educational in-services.
  • Required to work positively and collaboratively with all team members and supervisors.
  • Always maintains a neat appearance and be attired in clean, safe and presentable clothing.
  • Rubber-soled, steel-toed safety shoes when needed.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum 1-year work experience related to building or community maintenance.
  • Knowledge of and capability to complete tasks relating to general painting, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, heating systems and gardening.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices.
  • A basic level of computer knowledge – Microsoft Office and various maintenance software.
  • A demonstrated ability to prioritize and organize schedule of maintenance and workload planning.
  • An ability to communicate professionally with residents, staff, visitors and contractors.
  • All successful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to Provincial guidelines.
  • Ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Must be able to work with cleaners, detergents and other cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and follow instructions with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and written instructions.
