Position Summary **This position receives 4% in lieu of vacation + 13% in lieu of all benefits in addition to hourly rate of pay**

THE HOURS FOR THIS POSITION PROVIDES UP TO 24 HOURS PER WEEK WITH OPPORTUNITIES TO PICK UP ADDITIONAL SHIFTS

Responsible for the operation, inspection and maintenance of various types of farm/construction equipment and trucks in a highly safety conscious manner

Perform all Public Works general labour and associated operation of general labour equipment and machinery as required

Perform all aspects of winter control operations, including plow and/or salt sand operations, with a 5 and/or 8 ton plow truck on roads and streets, and/or sidewalk plow on sidewalks and walkways

Perform labour related tasks, such as flower bed preparation (i.e. roto-tilling, shoveling, edging), watering flower beds, vegetation removal/ disposal, as well as similar labour and material handling tasks

Work safely, efficiently and responsibly

Inspect and maintain equipment. Check, lubricate, refuel and clean any and all equipment, and report any malfunctions to the Assistant Supervisor

Recognize deficiencies or unsafe situations, conditions and report to the Assistant Supervisor

Work as part of a team

Responsible to perform Labourer duties, i.e. hand sweeping street islands

Responsible for large item pickup and the collection of roadside refuse

Qualifications, Competencies Perform other duties as required

High School (Grade 12) diploma or equivalent

2 years experience driving and/or operating heavy construction equipment; must include 2 full winter seasons plowing, salting or sanding

Possess and maintain a valid DZ License, with a satisfactory driver’s abstract

Must have a good and reasonable understanding of all Public Works activities

Must have reasonable working knowledge of and able to operate all Public Works general labour equipment and machinery in a safe and efficient manner

Meet the “Competent Person” requirements as defined in the Occupational Health & Safety Act

Qualified candidates will be contacted and required to pass the associated written and driving tests in order to move onto the interview. As a condition of employment, all new hires will be required to complete the pre-trip inspection training and pass the pre-trip inspection testing within 30 working days of starting position

Able to work in environment with continuous exposure to dust/dirt, oil/grease, noise, odors, smoke/fumes and vibration and occasional exposure to extreme temperatures and inclement weather

Must be willing to work any and/or all shifts, as may be required

Proof of immunity to Tetanus and Hepatitis B may be required

Must be available to work a variety of rotating shifts including days, evenings and weekends

Must be able to obtain and maintain a satisfactory criminal records check
