Position
The Materials & Logistics Technician is responsible for the accurate receiving, inspection, storage, and control of materials and components in compliance with ISO 13485 and THORASYS Quality Management System. This position plays a key role in maintaining inventory accuracy, ensuring part quality, and supporting production readiness through effective use of ERP. The role also provides backup support to Purchasing and Shipping as needed.
Core Responsibilities
Receiving & Quality Inspection
- Receive all incoming goods and verify against purchase orders and packing lists.
- Inspect parts visually and dimensionally using calibrated tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers) to ensure conformance to specifications.
- Review and file documentation (Certificates of Conformance, MSDS, etc.) required under ISO 13485.
- Identify and segregate non-conforming materials; initiate NCRs and notify Quality and/or suppliers as appropriate.
Inventory Control & Traceability
- Record all stock movements accurately in ERP (receipts, transfers, issues, adjustments).
- Maintain traceability of all materials and components, including lot numbers, serial numbers, and expiry dates.
- Ensure proper labeling and storage of inventory in accordance with GDP and QMS requirements.
- Perform cycle counts and support physical inventory, investigating and correcting discrepancies.
Warehouse & Material Handling
- Organize and maintain stockroom areas in a clean, safe, and compliant manner.
- Prepare and replenish kits for production, ensuring all components are complete and traceable.
- Monitor stock levels and report low inventory or reorder needs to Purchasing.
Backup Support – Purchasing and Shipping
- Provide coverage for basic sourcing tasks such as requesting supplier quotes, placing orders, or following up on open orders.
- Support shipping activities including packing, documentation, and carrier coordination when needed.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in logistics, supply chain, quality, or a technical field is an asset.
Minimum 2 years of experience in receiving, inventory control, or warehouse operations, preferably in a regulated environment (e.g., medical device, pharma, aerospace, etc.).
Experience working under ISO 13485 or other quality management systems is strongly preferred.
Technical Skills
- Proficient with ERP systems, ideally Odoo (or similar systems like SAP, NetSuite, Oracle, etc.).
- Familiarity with inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, and other basic measuring equipment.
- Comfortable interpreting basic technical drawings and specifications.
- Understanding of traceability, non-conformance reporting, and Good Documentation Practices.
- Knowledge of material handling procedures in a controlled/clean environment is an asset.
Soft Skills
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Effective communicator, able to interact with suppliers, production, and quality teams.
- Proactive and adaptable, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a startup environment.
Other Requirements
- Ability to lift to 50 lbs and operate pallet jacks or similar equipment.
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada
- Fluent in English written and spoken; additional languages are a plus.
