As the Senior Manager of (Geographic Information System) GIS Applications, you will be responsible for championing important business process and data improvements using technology as the enabler. You will be overseeing the technical and strategic aspects of our GIS application development and implementation. You will lead a team of talented GIS professionals, working closely with other departments to ensure our applications meet the highest standards of functionality, reliability, and user satisfaction.

What you’ll do

* Develop and implement strategies and road maps for long-term GIS application development, aligning with the company's goals and objectives.

* Lead the design and governance of solution architecture of the development, improvement sustainability of the GIS application.

* Ensure that technology solutions are aligned with BC Hydro’s enterprise architecture, security standards and compliance framework.

* Drive the solution design that ensures implemented solutions are scalable, operationally efficient, and strategically aligned with organizational objectives.

* Provide guidance and mentorship to the GIS team, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.

* Build a center of expertise using internal and system integrator resources to provide operational excellence that is resilient, agile, innovative and scalable.

* Stay abreast of the latest GIS technologies and trends, participate in the industry forums and incorporate innovative approach into our applications to enhance performance and user experience.

* Work closely with business primarily in the Distribution and Transmission groups to understand their needs and provide GIS solutions that exceed their expectations.

* Ensure end-to-end solutions delivery by representing, supporting and facilitating strategic and tactical program level planning (including key business units prioritization, demand management, resourcing scheduling, high-level business analysis, business case development / review / support / approvals, opportunity identification, and change management support), and business value realization.

What you bring

* Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geospatial Science, Computer Science, or a related field.

* Minimum of 10 years in an IT leadership role including the implementation of large size Technology projects and initiatives, and 5 years of experience in GIS application development, implementation and management.

* Minimum 5 years’ experience as a people leader in progressively more responsible roles.

* Demonstrated leading-edge knowledge of innovative business operations management practices.

* Technical Skills: Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ESRI ArcGIS, GE Smallworld). ADMS and ERP integrations experience are an asset.

* Utility experience is an asset, as well as utility field mobile applications.

* Proven track record of successfully managing large size technology projects from inception to completion.

* Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

* Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on delivering innovative GIS solutions.

* Ability to build engagement, collaborate and foster relationships.

* Ability to be influential, facilitate conversations and reach consensus.

* Ability to understands and value different perspectives to drive business solutions.

* Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
