Status: Regular Part-Time Support

Hours: Up to 24 hours per week

Salary: PT Support Payband 7 (Start $21.01 – Max $32.32)

About The Chef Technician Role Under the direction of the Director of Operations and Resource Management and Associate Dean, the incumbent assists in the demonstration, and coaches learners during the execution of basic culinary theories and principles. The incumbent’s daily duties are focused on the smooth operation and support of assigned culinary labs and/or the Catering/Retail and Learning Centre kitchen. Typically, the incumbent prepares labs for learning activities, including routine trial of culinary recipes, principles and theories, setup for lab activities, demonstration of proper use of equipment, facilities and tools, develops lab manuals and teaching aids in support of culinary principles as taught by related program Faculty.

Education The successful candidate will possess a two (2) year diploma from a recognized college in Culinary Management or equivalent.

Experience/Skills A minimum of five (5) years of practical related experience in a coaching capacity, in a high-quality kitchen operation, or in an independent, recognized restaurant. In addition, the successful candidate will hold Journeyman Certificate.

  • Strong ability to apply and demonstrate technical skills and knowledge to ensure student learning outcomes are met
  • Well-developed interpersonal, collaborative and customer service skills across diverse working groups
  • Food industry experience working with food management software and commercial kitchen equipment
  • Culturally diverse food expertise and demonstrated knowledge of various food service styles (large quantity banquet, events, stations and a la carte, etc.)
  • Ability to manage BOH and FOH food and equipment inventory/par stock levels
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of food safety and health and safety regulations
