Your contribution!
Reporting to the Senior Director – Project Realization, the Intern - Environment & Community is responsible for supporting Environment & Permitting and Community & Government Relation team activities in the development and operation of environmentally and socially responsible renewable energy projects in Western Canada, with a primary focus on hydro, solar and wind in development and operations.
Your day-to-day!
- Assist with the development and maintenance of internal environmental, community and government relations procedures, standards, templates, and tools for the company’s activities including, but not limited to environmental mitigation plans, permitting matrices, engagement plans, Indigenous and interested parties relationship directory, as well as engagement tracking and logging;
- Implement our systematic method for tracking engagement, permits, authorizations and other commitments of our projects via “INNSite” and “INNVision” (Salesforce platform);
- Support the coordinate and follow-up on community commitments and/or environmental permitting and approvals, including preparation of permit applications, engagement reports and compliance documents to be submitted to regulatory agencies,
- Collaborate with internal teams and outside consultants, to coordinate the implementation of environmental and community aspects of project development, such as environmental studies, permitting, and stakeholder engagement.
- Support relationships with key stakeholders, including local communities, Indigenous partners, government agencies, and industry associations.
- Conduct research and develop key messages and solutions to ongoing environmental and community project tasks.
Your skills, our requirements!
- A recent graduate or currently in school to obtain an undergraduate degree in first nation and indigenous studies, environmental studies, science or related natural resource management program (experience with field work valuable).
- Less than 1 year of experience, preferably in environmental consulting, government, or industry;
- Experience in the renewable energy sector (hydro, solar, wind, energy storage) is an asset;
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken);
- Available to travel throughout BC and work away from home for short periods of time (1-3 days) to conduct field visits and attend community meetings, as required;
- Strong sense of ownership for individual tasks and overall team objectives;
- Strong organizational skills and ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and a context of changing priorities;
- Ability to work independently and advance specific tasks and projects to conclusion without extensive oversight;
- Detail orientated and thinks critically about tasks and process;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and spoken);
- Proven ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams and interact with diverse stakeholders;
- Enthusiasm, eagerness to learn and work in a seasoned team and environmental professionals;
- An interest in environmental issues and responsible natural resource development.
Additional considerations!
- Valid driver’s licence.
- The position is based at our downtown Vancouver (BC) office;
- You need to be able to travel to facilities in British Columbia, some of which are located on remote sites.
Pay Transparency Statement
Compensation for roles at Innergex varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, education, and level of experience. We believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer.
The salary range for this internship is between $20 and $25 per hour.
