About the role

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Coordinator to join our team and lead efforts in maintaining a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplace. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring EHS programs and initiatives to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and support a culture of continuous improvement. A key focus of the role is fostering a positive safety culture by encouraging open communication, employee involvement, and continuous improvement in health and safety practices.

Under the direction of and in collaboration with the EHS Manager the position responsibilities include:

  • Support improvement in HSE results and processes resulting in reduction of injuries, and the identification of hazards in the workplace
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with our customers; including, but not limited to our employees and the Leadership team
  • Determine the EH&S training requirements and develop training programs where required
  • Participate in site JHSC meetings and provide support to members of the JHSC; engaging the EHS Manager when required (escalation of concerns/questions)
  • Assist in coordinating HSE compliance and risk assessment activities through functional teams
  • Create policies, procedures, and training programs to mitigate risks and promote a safe workplace
  • Conduct data collection, reporting and trends analysis on HSE metrics (incidents, inspections, environmental data, etc.)
  • Constantly seek feedback and opportunities for improvement in your role and where EHS supports site teams
  • Ensure EHS training is up to date for all sites and arrange or perform EHS training for all levels, including orientation to new employees
  • Assist with implementation and maintenance of various elements of the Management System
  • Update and maintain company’s Health and Safety and Environmental Policies and Procedures
  • Ensure compliance with the company’s EHS framework and regulations
  • Review and update current EHS Management System documents (forms/work instructions)
  • Assist with systems data entry ensuring to maintain/manage the integrity and accuracy of the data; raise concerns/question reports submitted to provide future learning opportunities for leaders
  • Submit claims to WSIB and manage modified work program
  • Constantly challenge the current methods and techniques that will provide for a superior, more efficient and improved result in all we do
  • Maintain a strong knowledge of legislative changes that are upcoming in order to pro-actively begin revising, developing and implementing procedures
  • Investigating accidents, near-misses, and incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions

Skills/Knowledge/Experience required to perform the job:

  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety
  • 1-3 years previous experience in Environmental Health & Safety, preferably in manufacturing, logistics or construction
  • Knowledge of the OHSA and its regulations, CSA standards and other legislative requirements; experience as an ISO auditor considered an asset
  • Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong computer skills with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access
  • Proficient in HSE systems (e.g., SharePoint, eCompliance or other HSMS- preferred
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Must be able to respond to tight deadlines during regular and peak periods and to last minute demands and requirements
  • Organized, detailed oriented, ability to prioritize tasks, work with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability and desire to learn and grow in own role and within the company
