Job Description Position Purpose summary: The Food Services supervisor supports the Coordinator in ensuring the nutritional needs of the residents of the Ottawa Booth Centre are met through the ongoing smooth and efficient management of the food services department practicing and enforcing safe food handling standards. The Supervisor is solely responsible for the operations of the kitchen in the absence if the Coordinator.
Accountabilities
- Provide overall supervision of weekend food services staff ensuring expectations and accountabilities are in line with the expectations of the Coordinator
- Support in menu planning to ensure a variety of meals are nutritious, enjoyable, and in accordance with the Canadian Food Guide
- May assist in the ordering of food items and other supplies from approved suppliers using the purchase order system
- Assists in ensures all food and food deliveries are stored to safe food handling guidelines and tracked in the inventory system
- Ensures that the physical maintenance and cleanliness of the kitchen and dining areas in accordance with Health and Safety standards
- Ensures the accurate compiling of operation reports and statistics such as meal costs, meals served fridge/freezer temperature checks etc
- Ensures weekend food services staff are aware of and trained in emergency and safety procedures
Hours of Work - Friday, Saturday & Sunday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm Working Conditions
- The working location for this position is the kitchen at the Ottawa Booth Centre
- The position requires a significant amount of walking and standing
- The position requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted
- May encounter upset or verbally abusive residents

- Successful completion of a one-year Culinary Skills College Certificate
- Current safe Food Handling Certificate
- A Police Backgroud Check acceptable to the Salvation Army
Experience And Skilled Knowledge Requirements
- Minimum of 1-2years experience in a supervisory role within a commercial kitchen environment
- Minimum 3 years experience in the food service industry
Skills And Capabilities
- Excellent organizational skills
- Effective communication skills, written and verbal
- Effective problem solving skills
- Ability to cook and prep food as per safe food handling guidelines
- Effective coaching skills
- Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
Compensation The target hiring range for this position is $23.28 to $29.10 with a maximum of $34.92.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
