The opportunity
We are currently seeking an Occupational Health Nurse to join our highly skilled Health & Safety team to work a 2-week on/off fly-in/fly-out rotation to and from the Menihek region in Labrador, near the town of Schefferville, QC.
The main pick-up points are St. John’s, Gander, Deer Lake in NL, Halifax, NS, Moncton, NB, and Montreal & Quebec City, QC.
Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, the Occupational Health Nurse will provide medical attention to site employees who require medical care due to an occupational or non-occupational injury or illness.
This is a permanent full-time position starting in August 2025.
Major Responsibilities
- Diagnose and treat employees who are injured or become sick on the job
- Manage patient’s cases from initial treatment to return to normal duties
- Help site patients with information on short-term disability claims and WCB claims
- Assist with mental health issues
- Help with pre-employment medicals and in yearly miners’ medicals (scheduling and assessment)
- Administer required medication/immunizations/vaccinations
- Actively involved in the drug testing requirements of the Alcohol and Drug policy
- Establish health and wellness educational programmes and participates in the delivery of these programs
- Promote compliance with regulations and legislations related the health
- Collect and assess data (incidents of illness, injury) to identify trends and evaluates the effectiveness of safety and wellness programmes
- Establish and maintain confidential employee health records
- Patient triage, first aid and injury treatment for injured workers
- Provide emergency response and trauma management as required
- Comfortable treating and transporting patients in field or in industrial setting
- Regular promotion of injury prevention initiatives and wellness activities
- Advise on occupation health and workplace safety best practices
- Coordinate site case management and ESRTW profiles
- Conduct periodic health/medical screening and Fit for Work assessments
- Ensure medical records and clinical notes are documented accurately in a timely fashion
- Maintain professional practice guidelines
- Support HSE department with Data collection, trending and analysis
- Provide leadership in Medical ERT training actively coordinate and participate in field training and scenarios and live scenarios
- Actively participate in site Hygiene inspections
Your Profile
- Actively licensed with the College Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CRNNL) or be willing to obtain their CRNNL licencing (Mandatory)
- Occupational Health Certification, or comparable combination of education and experience
- First Responder Certificate
- ACLS (Advanced cardiac Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Curriculum)
- BLS/HCP (Basic Life Support Hospital Care level)
- Additional occupational health training and/or coaching training would be a definite asset
- Strong computer skills or aptitude is required
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English is required, French is a strong asset
- Remote mine site experience would be an asset
- Must be willing and able to travel (fly in/fly out)
