About the role
Job Description Reporting to the Manager, Shipyard Accounting, VDC, the Financial Accountant II supports day-to-day accounting and reporting for Seaspan’s Vancouver Drydock (VDC). Working closely and collaboratively with VDC Operation’s team in a fast-paced environment, the Financial Accountant II assists by maintaining accurate data to facilitate strategic decision making. We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, and analytical individual to join our team. The role will include month-end entries, account reconciliations, variance analysis, financial reporting, process documentation, and project support.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 203 East Esplanade, North Vancouver. What You’ll Do
- Partner with VDC Operation’s team to provide financial data and insights for decision making purposes.
- Support month-end close, including the preparation of journal entries.
- Monthly reconciliation of various balance sheet accounts and maintenance of working papers.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly management reports, including variance analysis, and weekly project dashboards.
- Weekly cash management forecast, including reconciling payments, maintaining AR schedules, and highlighting at-risk customers.
- Support development of the annual budget and periodic forecasts.
- Assist in interim and annual audit requirements, including responding to queries.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance the efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness of accounting operations and internal controls at VDC.
- Assist with ad hoc issues or any new projects as they arise.
What You’ll Bring
- CPA designation strongly preferred.
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5+ years of accounting experience, with excellent knowledge of GAAP accounting principles and month-end close processes.
- Previous experience with ERP systems, particularly JD Edwards Enterprise One and SAP Business Objects Web Intelligence, would be a strong asset.
- Intermediate to advanced skills using MS Excel and solid skills in MS Office.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in all areas of work.
- Excellent people skills and strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to multi-task, work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Customer service orientation, self-starter and initiative driven.
