Operating out of a cutting-edge, 5-acre facility in South Foothills Industrial Park, Calgary, Alberta, we are committed to excellence, innovation, and above all—safety. As we continue to expand, we are seeking a qualified Safety Manager to champion our occupational health and safety initiatives.

Position Overview

The Safety Manager plays a pivotal role in promoting a safe and healthy work environment by ensuring compliance with all relevant Alberta Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation , Canadian Occupational Health and Safety Regulations , and corporate safety standards. This role supports our manufacturing teams through effective training, leadership, compliance audits, incident investigation, and the implementation of safety initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage ICE Western’s health and safety program in compliance with Alberta’s Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation, and Code , and COHSR .

  • Conduct and document Field-Level Hazard Assessments (FLHA), daily toolbox talks, and routine workplace inspections.

  • Certified External Health & Safety Auditor

  • External Auditor Certificate (COR Program)

  • Certified Health & Safety Auditor"

  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies, Safe Work Practices (SWPs), and Safe Job Procedures (SJPs).

  • Maintain and prepare documentation for ACSA COR Certification and lead annual external audits.

  • Manage WCB claims, including injury reporting, documentation, Return-to-Work (RTW) plans, and ongoing claim reviews.

  • Deliver safety orientation and training for new hires and continuous education for all staff.

  • Participate in and lead investigations of incidents, near misses, and workplace hazards. Identify root causes and develop corrective actions.

  • Communicate and collaborate with cross-functional teams to foster a strong safety culture.

  • Provide reports, safety statistics, and trends to senior management.

  • Maintain regulatory compliance with all environmental, health, and safety requirements.

  • Perform housekeeping audits and monitor first aid, eyewash, and safety station readiness. Lead initiatives to reduce occupational injuries and promote continuous safety improvements.

Skills and Qualifications

  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation is required .

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in an occupational health and safety role , preferably in a manufacturing environment.

  • Strong knowledge of Alberta Occupational Health and Safety legislation , standards, and codes.

  • Familiarity with Canadian OHS federal legislation , particularly if work involves interprovincial or federal projects.

  • Proven experience in incident investigation , WCB case management , and return-to-work programs .

  • ISNetworld Compliance management

  • ERP development and implementation

  • Train the trainer - certifications an asset

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to engage and influence all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills. Previous experience in safety program development and COR audit preparation

  • Office Setting: Work will be partially based in a professional office environment.

  • Manufacturing Facility: Frequent movement through production areas, requiring adherence to PPE policies and environmental controls.
