Overview
The Logistics Coordinator's primary responsibility is to ensure the efficient and cost-effective flow of goods, from procurement to delivery. This involves coordinating transportation to and from Growers, Vendors and Customers to optimize the supply chain; with focus on maintaining customer satisfaction by ensuring timely and accurate delivery of products
Duties
- Optimize transportation by coordinating with Bayshore or external carriers, considering cost, capability, and other pertinent factors to identify the most suitable option
- Develop and implement a daily load plan that optimizes trailer utilization for both deliveries and pickups, ensuring maximum capacity while minimizing transportation costs.
- Coordinate and administer the scheduling of appointments with customers and vendors, including modifications and cancellations, while maintaining clear communication of all changes to external partners and notifying appropriate departments in the event of any major shipping delays that could impact order fulfilment.
- Oversee the coordination of inbound and outbound shipments via air, truck, and container, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of perishable goods.
- Ensure compliance with all border paperwork and customs clearance procedures for both imports and exports
- Prepare, review, and process customs documentation for shipments, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements for import and export of perishable goods
- Liaise with customs brokers, regulatory agencies, and freight forwarders to ensure smooth and timely border clearance
- Maintain detailed knowledge of storage and shipping temperature requirements for perishable products, ensuring that all shipments meet temperature control specifications during transit and storage.
- Monitor and document the temperature of goods during transport and storage to maintain product quality.
- Proactively identify potential delays or issues in the logistics process and take corrective action to minimize disruptions.
- Manage driver schedules effectively by hiring and scheduling Bayshore drivers to ensure full coverage during peak periods and adjusting staffing levels during off-peak times to control costs and minimize overtime.
- Maintain detailed records of all repairs for each unit of equipment and submit comprehensive reports on a regular basis.
- Conduct thorough inspections of equipment cleanliness and condition, and implement and manage cleaning protocols and documentation to ensure adherence to food safety standards.
- Communicates with carrier dispatch and respective departments to obtain and confirm estimated times of arrival (ETAs) and scheduled delivery times.
- Oversee the communication, logistical processes, and re-inventorying procedures related to rejected materials or products ensuring that all required documentation accommodates the return of goods.
- Monitor equipment location and driver behavior, ensuring adherence to time schedules and driver safety regulations.
- Ensure accurate cost allocation by entering all relevant expenses into Famous against the appropriate Purchase Order (PO) or Sales Order (SO)
- Implement a system for the continuous cost analysis of driver and carrier cost and performance to ensure cost-effectiveness and efficiency.
Skills
- Proven experience in logistics coordination for perishable goods, with specific expertise in air, truck and container transportation mandatory
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple shipments and deliveries simultaneously
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to ensure smooth logistics operations
- Proficiency in logistics tools and produce industry knowledge is an asset
