Are you looking to take your exceptional leadership and communication skills to the next level? We currently have an opening for Director of Operations at the Edmonton Remand Centre (ERC).
Reporting to the Associate Director and Centre Director, you will provide senior leadership to a large complement of managers, supervisors and correctional peace officers responsible for the admission, release, care, custody and control over approximately 1600 inmates. This position provides direction in the day-to-day operation of the ERC, including overseeing effective and efficient deployment of correctional staff, compliance with relevant policies, standards and legislations; strategic leadership and expertise; the development of operational policy, plans and strategies, and direction and support towards the development of frontline skills and capacity.
This position must build effective alliances, understand complex relationships, and facilitate decision making processes within a complex correctional environment. You will possess proficient writing and communication skills.
In this position you will work collaboratively with other directors and interact with members of the public, human resource consultants, special interest groups, members of the judiciary, lawyers, police, and their counterparts. You will ensure that all activities occurring on shift are in conformance with standards, policies, procedures as well as federal and provincial laws.
Additional responsibilities include:
• Facilitation of emergency procedures and critical incident management
• Human resource management
• Participation in post position and related budgetary analyses
• Ability to undertake extensive investigations and responsive action over matters related to FOIP, Ombudsman, Human Rights and civil litigation
• Provision of direction and support in training initiatives, performance excellence and OHS strategies
Qualifications
Required:
• University graduation in a related field (Criminal Justice, Sociology, Justice Studies, Law Enforcement),
• Three years of related experience (Deputy Director, Manager in a correctional facility)
Equivalency:
• Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.
Assets:
• Working experience at the management level within the Correctional Services Division.

This posting will be used to fill a permanent Director of Operations position at the Edmonton Remand Centre.
Hours of work: 36.25 hours per week Monday to Friday.
A valid Alberta’s driver’s license is required for this position.
Final candidates will be required to undergo security screening including a fingerprint based criminal record check with a vulnerable sector search.
Any costs associated with obtaining the required documents/checks as noted or interview travel expenses, will be the responsibility of the candidate. Out-of-province applicants can obtain the required documents/checks from the province they currently reside in.
