Job Description

What You’ll Do:

Reporting to the Manager, GL&DC - Disability Benefits Coordination, you’ll be responsible for reviewing and setting up new disability and life waiver claims, verifying members’ eligibility, calculating disability benefits, and processing payments. They are also the primary contact with School Boards and responsible for addressing Member enquiries about the LTD claim status and policy provisions.

The core parts of your role will be to:

  • Determine coverage eligibility of disability claims and life waiver claims to provide accurate benefit start dates and other payment information to the assigned Disability Analyst.

  • Obtain the required information to provide accurate calculations including manual complex calculations. Superior policy knowledge and interpretation.

  • Provide superior customer service on an assigned caseload of new and ongoing disability and life waiver claims.

  • Responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the financial information for the disability life reserve feed.

  • Identify training needs with plan administrators and unions. Ensuring they have up to date knowledge of processes and claim requirements as they relate to disability payments and eligibility.

  • Build and foster strong relationships with the school board and unions. Attends in person and virtual meetings as needed. Provide accurate information to members on payments and offsets.

  • Prepares and processes responses to Members, Unions and School Board representatives in accordance with established standards.

  • Performs other duties within competence, as assigned.

Qualifications

Let’s Talk About You:

This is the unique blend of skills and experience we would love to see in an ideal candidate:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree or equivalent business experience
  • Three to five years’ experience in short term or long-term group disability claims insurance and understanding of policy language and application.
  • Experience in short- or long-term disability calculations and payments.
  • A strong ability for mathematical calculations/applications and successful completion of a mathematical aptitude test
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the demonstrated ability to deal effectively with all levels of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Superior time management and organizational skills to manage competing priorities, including project management skills.
  • The ability to communicate in French will be considered an asset.
