The challenges that await you

You plan, organize, direct, and control activities related to the management of human, financial, and material resources of the Technical Section necessary for the fulfillment of the mission of the Laval Fire Safety Service, in compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, standards, and collective agreements. You adhere to the mission, values, and orientations of the Service and ensure their promotion, respect, and application. You take necessary measures to protect health and ensure the safety and physical integrity of the teams. You determine, in collaboration with your supervisor, the orientations, objectives, and priorities of your division and ensure their achievement. You provide guidance to staff by supporting and guiding them in taking on their responsibilities. You are responsible for evaluating staff performance and promoting their development by analyzing needs and setting objectives to be achieved. You participate in the budgeting process and manage it according to the rules established by the City of Laval. You work on various mandates and committees that arise from management and represent it to organizations and individuals. You assure the management of interventions related to health and safety and assume accountability according to your rank. You maintain your skill level, share your expertise, and stay informed of any elements that can be integrated into the organizational strategy to improve service delivery.

You participate in planning procurement needs and are responsible for monitoring purchases and logistics of equipment and materials. You supervise acquisition, maintenance, and replacement activities of firefighting equipment and vehicles. You plan and coordinate equipment testing committees, conduct analysis, produce reports, and submit recommendations. You ensure compliance with procurement rules. You ensure optimal management of the life cycle of equipment dedicated to health and safety by implementing preventive maintenance programs. You coordinate and closely monitor the execution of preventive and corrective maintenance programs and activities for equipment. You ensure oversight of repairs, maintenance, and availability of the fleet of vehicles and vessels to maintain territorial coverage in line with the risk coverage plan. You ensure compliance with legal obligations related to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the maintenance and management standards of firefighting equipment.

The ideal profile for us

  • Hold the Officer II certification related to the Fire Safety Act regulation, or commit to obtaining it within 24 months from the date of confirmation of passing this competition;
  • Have five (5) years of experience in management positions; any combination of training and experience deemed relevant will be considered;
  • Holding a university degree in a relevant field will be considered an asset.
