Role:

Product Owner II ensures alignment between product development and business goals by managing the product backlog and prioritizing valuable features. They translate high-level objectives into detailed user stories for the development team, providing clear acceptance criteria. Acting as a liaison between stakeholders and the team, they ensure smooth communication and understanding during sprint planning. The Product Owner approves completed work to meet expectations while continuously gathering feedback to refine the product. Collaboration and regular feedback loops help maintain quality and drive improvements. They balance short-term tasks with the long-term product vision.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Define Product Vision: Clearly articulates the product vision and ensures it aligns with business goals.
  • Manages Product Backlog: Maintains and prioritizes the product backlog, ensuring it reflects the most valuable features.
  • Writes User Stories: Breaks down high-level product requirements into detailed user stories with clear acceptance criteria.
  • Sprint Planning: Collaborates with the Scrum team during sprint planning to ensure understanding of the product backlog items.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Acts as the primary contact for stakeholders, gathering requirements and keeping them informed of progress.
  • Backlog Refinement: Regularly refines and reprioritizes the product backlog based on feedback and evolving requirements.
  • Acceptance Testing: Defines and approves the acceptance criteria for each backlog item, ensuring delivered features meet expectations.
  • Roadmap Planning: Assists in developing and communicating the product roadmap to ensure long-term alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Prioritization: Makes data-driven decisions to prioritize features, balancing technical needs and business requirements.
  • Sprint Reviews: Participates in sprint reviews to assess progress, gathers feedback, and ensures continuous improvement.
  • Team Collaboration: Works closely with the Scrum team to clarify objectives, resolves questions, and supports development efforts.
  • Risk Management: Identifies potential risks to product development and works proactively to mitigate them.
  • Customer Advocacy: Represents the voice of the customer in all product-related discussions, ensuring their needs are reflected in the product.
  • Monitor Market Trends: Stays informed about industry trends, competitor products, and market needs to drive product innovation.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drives continuous improvement in both the product and development processes, seeking efficiency and quality.
  • Complies with Sysco’s Food Safety Policy and procedures to ensure food safety, quality and legality requirements are met.
  • Is willing to work safely with minimal environmental impact and understands the importance of reporting all hazards, incidents, and environmental spills immediately to their supervisor.
  • Understands that they play an integral role in their own safety and that of their colleagues and is willing to speak out when hazards are present.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Skills/Job Requirements (About you):

Mandatory Experience:

  • Minimum: 2-4 years of experience in product management, business analysis, or related roles, with hands-on exposure to Agile/Scrum environments.
  • Preferred: Proven experience managing a product backlog and leading sprint planning meetings.
  • Practical Training: Strong practical experience in stakeholder management and backlog refinement.
  • Exposure: Exposure to end-to-end product development, balancing technical and business priorities.
  • Learning: Capable of managing more complex products, with opportunities for deeper engagement in strategic decision-making.
  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, or related area, or deep business experience with 2+ years of product or project experience.
  • Preferred: Certification in Agile or Scrum (e.g., CSPO, PMI-ACP) and additional training in product management.
  • Knowledge Base: Solid understanding of management principles, industry standards, and Agile practices, with demonstrated skills in product ownership.
  • Proficient in Agile frameworks and product management tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence), with experience in user story creation and backlog prioritization.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a good understanding of the product lifecycle and customer needs.
  • Moderate technical knowledge relevant to the industry, enabling effective collaboration with development teams.
