Job Title: Litigation Legal Assistant

Location: Toronto, ON

Job Type: Permanent

Salary: $50,000 - $60,000/year

Our client in Toronto Region, ON is actively looking for a Operation's Coordinator to join their team. Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct conflict searches and manage the opening and closing of files;
  • Perform searches using TransUnion, Equifax, Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO), and Teraview databases;
  • Draft, finalize, and send demand letters, letters serving court documents, and other correspondence;
  • Submit court documents through the JSO portal;
  • Arrange for, and follow up on, service of statements of claim;
  • Prepare legal documents including affidavits of service, satisfaction pieces, and notices of discontinuance;
  • Coordinate with the Trial Coordinator’s office to obtain and confirm motion dates;
  • Compile, serve, and file motion records, factums, and briefs of authorities;
  • Upload documents onto Case Centre and hyperlink them as required by Practice Directions;
  • Request and coordinate skip trace searches;
  • Liaise with debtors, opposing counsel, court offices, and other legal professionals;
  • Prepare, review, and finalize monthly prebills and legal invoices.

The successful candidate must possess the following qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a litigation department of a law firm, with preference given to experience in the area of recovery and creditor rights;
  • Proficiency with legal databases and court portals such as JSO and Case Centre;
  • Familiarity with court rules, practice directions, legal documentation;
  • Advanced computer skills;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally and diplomatically with people;
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills, with a proven ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment;
  • Self-starter with a positive attitude and the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
