The Ministry of Social Services is looking for an individual to join our team as an Assistant Supervisor to the Child Protection team.

We are seeking candidates interested in working in our Nipawin location, a drive-in and drive-out position, over a four (4) week average period. You will work 11-hour days (Monday through Saturday) with scheduled days off.

The successful candidate may be compensated for travel time from their home location to Nipawin at the beginning and end of the rotation. Staff housing may also be provided.

In this role, you will supervise, manage, and implement programs designed to provide protective, preventative, and support services to children, parents and foster families utilizing the Family Centred Case Management Model and P.R.I.D.E. Model of Practice.

In this position, you will:

  • Coach, mentor and train staff as the expert and role model on your team.
  • Demonstrate leadership exemplified by respect and empowerment, in order to encourage employees to achieve success.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and support to staff in the absence of the supervisor, concerning placements of children and supporting caregivers with children in care.
  • Assist with service delivery between Child and Family division programs, work units and partner agencies.
  • Be knowledgeable about Ministry policies and procedures, as outlined in the Child and Family Services Act, Family/Children’s Service and PRIDE Manuals.
  • Act as a liaison with First Nations CFS and community agencies, with service delivery and decisions.
  • You may represent your unit, Ministry or region on community or internal committees.

The Ideal Candidate

As our successful candidate, you will:

  • Work effectively and positively with co-workers, supervisors, management teams and caregivers.
  • Have knowledge of child abuse, neglect and domestic violence indicators and effects.
  • Bring expertise in policy and practice for your program area.
  • Knowledge of multi-cultural beliefs and values, with a particular emphasis on First Nations and Métis.
  • Be experienced with a range of social work theories, and coaching/mentoring professional staff.

To qualify for this position, you will possess a Bachelor of Social Work or Bachelor of Indigenous Social Work degree from an accredited university, as approved by the SASW/CASW or CASWE. The successful candidate will have several years of experience in Child Protection/Children’s Services- within Child and Family programs AND supervising professional staff.
