Position Overview
Vancouver Rise is seeking an experienced and dynamic Technical Director to provide technical leadership and strategic oversight for the Vancouver Rise Girls Elite Academy, ensuring the integration of a clear professional pathway aligned with the First Team tactical philosophy and the Academy’s specific player development needs. This role will foster a culture of excellence, accountability and continuous development for players and staff.
Key Responsibilities
General Duties
- Champion Safe Sport and ensure a positive, inclusive, high performance Academy environment.
- Develop & uphold the Academy’s values and club standards.
- Lead annual planning for training and competitions.
- Oversee day-to-day Academy operations and act as the main internal and external point of contact.
- Liaise with leagues and attend required meetings.
- Manage academy policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with technical, medical, and operations staff to deliver an integrated performance model.
Staff Leadership
- Provide strategic leadership and management of the Technical Coaching Team and Football Operations Staff. Daily staff oversight, including performance reviews and professional development.
- Develop staffing plans and manage hiring and onboarding.
- Lead daily staff oversight, including performance reviews and professional development.
- Organize staff schedules and regular meetings to maintain standards and consistency.
- Deliver regular staff meetings (minimum weekly) to align technical delivery and uphold standards.
Technical Direction
- Lead the Academy’s game model and development philosophy in line with the First Team approach.
- Oversee annual training plans, playing style, and curriculum.
- Manage High Potential Player (HPP) progression and succession planning.
- Support build and management of team rosters for all academy teams.
- Ensure every Academy player has and follows an Individual Development Plan (IDP) that is actively monitored and updated
- Oversee player monitoring, reporting, and on-field coaching quality.
- Act as the technical point of contact with partner clubs, leagues, and provincial/national associations.
- Support player National Team opportunities and work closely with national federations to promote Academy players
Player & Parent Management
- Act as the main point of contact for player and parent matters.
- Develop and uphold Academy rules and policies.
- Lead player evaluations and communicate clearly with families.
- Support disciplinary matters as required.
Player Recruitment & Talent ID
- Lead the annual Academy recruitment strategy.
- Maintain and update the Academy talent depth chart.
- Provide regular recruitment updates and recommendations.
Performance Monitoring
- Define and track key performance indicators for player and staff growth.
- Conduct Academy-wide audits and share progress with the Sporting Director.
- Oversee the Academy budget with Academy Operations manager.
Culture & Environment
- Drive a daily high-performance environment rooted in the club’s values.
- Ensure clear communication channels for players, staff, and families.
- Be a visible leader within the club and community.
Community Engagement
- Represent Vancouver Rise in the community and wider football network.
- Build strong relationships with families, grassroots clubs, schools, and partners.
Club Meetings & Reporting
- Attend all key meetings (Technical Board, Recruitment, Football Management).
- Meet monthly with the Sporting Director to review progress and priorities.
Qualifications & Skills
- Proven experience in football management, development environment preferably as a Sporting Director, General Manager, or similar leadership role.
- Strong leadership, strategic planning, and decision-making skills.
- Extensive knowledge of player scouting, recruitment, and contract negotiations.
- Financial and budget management experience within a football environment.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with players, parents, staff, and league officials.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple responsibilities.
- Frequent travel and attend both home and away matches.
