Position Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position provides hairdressing services to a diverse inpatient population of individuals living with mental illness including schizophrenia, mood & anxiety disorders, dementia and behavioural issues.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent, with post‐secondary diploma in hair styling required.
- Proof of STO license to practice in Ontario is required
- Two years current experience with hair styling & design techniques, with some exposure to individuals living with mental illness required.
- Valid driver’s license preferred.
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to assist with personal hygiene/grooming of clients required.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate in a sensitive and non‐judgmental manner with clients living with mental illness required.
- Demonstrated ability to accept responsibility and act on own initiative required.
- Demonstrated basic mathematic/accounting skills required.
- Demonstrated excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to be assertive in dealing with difficult individuals required.
- Good attendance and work record is essential.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Performs some of the following duties:
- Provides hairstyling and personal grooming services to clients, either by appointment in the Hair Salon or by a pre‐arranged schedule on inpatient and/or secure units.
- Coordinates the appointment schedule for all related services.
- Observes patient behaviour at all times, and reports any areas of concern or inappropriate behaviour to the Charge Nurse.
- Ensures that all hairdressing tools are maintained in a secure and safe manner at all times.
- Performs general duties as they relate to the maintenance of the Hair Salon (i.e. cleaning, changing linens, ordering supplies, etc.).
- Keep statistical data as required by service.
- All other duties as assigned.
WAGE RATE:
$28.19...$29.40...$30.61 (plus 14% in lieu of benefits)
