Toronto Life at a Glance:
Toronto Life is an award-winning city magazine focused on riveting, meaningful journalism, vibrant photography, and great design. Our stories dig deep into the people, politics, culture, and character of Toronto, and we’re passionate about telling them in print and online with clarity, nuance, and visual punch. We’re looking for a Editorial Designer and Photo Coordinator — someone who’s enthusiastic about longform editorial work, has a strong visual sensibility, and wants to grow their skills in an established, and highly collaborative creative environment.
The Role
This hybrid position blends photo research, production coordination, and layout design. You’ll work closely with the Art Director and editorial team to help shape the visual language of the magazine and ensure each issue comes together smoothly. This is a great opportunity for someone with some experience in editorial, design, or photography — but most importantly, someone who’s curious, proactive, and loves magazines.
Responsibilities
- Editorial Page Design
- Design templated pages (front-of-book and back-of-book), web, and video graphics under the guidance of the Art Director
- Prepare print-ready files and ensure consistency with style guidelines
- Organize image assets and support layout workflow in Adobe InDesign
- Photo Research & Production Support
- Conduct image research through stock sites, archives, and agency databases
- Assist with sourcing photographers and requesting hi-res assets
- Track image usage and rights/credit information
- Support editorial photoshoots (scheduling, location scouting, call sheets, purchase orders)
What You Bring
- 1–3 years of experience in a creative field (editorial design, media, photography, or publishing)
- Strong working knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Photoshop
- A sharp eye for imagery and storytelling
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- A collaborative mindset and willingness to jump in wherever needed
- Interest in editorial design, journalism, and the life of the city
- Experience with photo licensing or rights management
- Basic knowledge of print production (color, bleeds, pre-press)
If this sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you!
