The Ministry of Corrections Policing and Public Safety, Prince Albert Provincial Correctional Centre, is seeking a skilled, self-directed, and motivated individual with solid leadership, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills who enjoys working outdoors. We are seeking a candidate who will demonstrate a strong commitment to working as part of the Outside Maintenance team as well as supervising a crew of adult (male) inmates. As a member of the Outside maintenance team, you will demonstrate a strong commitment to the supervision of an inmate maintenance crew, guiding a team, coaching and encouraging inmates to enhance their performance and further develop their skills with the various requirements of facility ground maintenance. You will be a positive role model that will promote growth and development of the use of various equipment in a challenging environment. Your duties will also include office furniture moving, snow removal, and other job-related tasks.

The successful candidate must have knowledge and experience in the operation of skid steer equipment and their related attachments, as well as smaller equipment such as lawn mowers, weed trimmers, chainsaws, sprinkler systems and spraying devices. You will be required to inspect, troubleshoot, and repair this equipment on a regular basis. To be successful in this position, you must be able to work independently and as part of a team. You must have keen leadership skills, in order to provide direction and guidance to inmates in the completion of their daily duties, and solid observation and communication skills.

You must have knowledge and the ability to diagnose technical problems associated with vehicle and equipment repairs to determine the cause of the problem. You will be responsible for appropriate storing/handling/mixing of gardening chemicals; and workplace hazardous chemicals. Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is also a must.
