Senior Accountant for provincial government agency client, North York.

Job Type: Temporary.
Initial Term: July 2 2025 to December 31 2025.
Target Compensation: From $41 per hour to $57 per hour, according to experience.
Regular Work Hours: 7.25 hours per day not including 1 hour unpaid lunch break, to be worked during regular business hours, Monday to Friday (36.25 work hours per week).
Work Location: Hybrid - combination of 2 days remote-based and 3 days onsite at client's North York office, near TTC station. Onsite work expectations subject always to client business requirements, and may change according to client business need.
Position Reports To: Senior Manager, Finance.
Responsibilities Summary:
Provide advice and support to management team on the financial management and controllership of organization fiscal resources, financial controllership policies, best practices, risk management, auditing, procurement processes and related issues.
- Contribute to controllership function, including financial accountability structure and policies, standards, and support mechanisms. Interpret policies, allocate priorities, conduct analyses of various financial and related matters, and advise on impacts, options, and proposed courses of action. Provide technical guidance to managers and staff.
- Plan and coordinate effective financial planning analyses and advice to support strategic operational and resource planning, expenditure reduction and program evaluation processes. Contribute to development and management of chart of accounts, and appropriation control.
- Analyze and assess financial impacts of emerging issues, cost implications, and business cases for programs and initiatives. Assess forecasts and allocation strategies. Conduct analyses to support integrated planning/program management processes.
- Lead or participate on multi-disciplinary project teams for development, review and implementation of financial administration procedures, systems and processes.
- Lead or participate in development and delivery of financial and business process training sessions. Lead or participate on various projects and committees.
- Respond to requests for information and analysis from senior management and central agencies.
- Prepare reports, briefing materials, and issue notes, etc. for senior management.
- Additional financial management and analysis, advisory and reporting responsibilities as required.
Qualifications:
Education: Post Secondary Degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Professional Credentials: CPA designation or equivalent.
Preferred Work Experience: Approximately 5+ years of related corporate accounting, financial management or controllership experience.
Preferred Sector Experience: Public sector accounting and financial management experience preferred.
Technical and Language Skills Requirements:
- Demonstrated proficiency with ERP level financial information systems, to plan, manage and improve financial processes and accountability to central agencies.
- Advanced proficiency in MSExcel (may be tested).
- Advanced English communication skills, with ability to read and analyst complex documents. Verbal presentation skills suitable for a diverse range of audiences, including senior leadership.
Task -Based Qualifications and Additional Attributes:
- Sound knowledge of modern controllership, financial planning and management, and accounting principles, policies and practices, including internal financial controls and mechanisms, risk management principles and methods, accounting principles and practices, financial analysis methods, and financial reporting practices,
- Consulting and advisory skills to provide advice, training and support to management and staff on a variety of financial planning and management issues.
- Demonstrated record of professional conduct and character. Responsible and reliable, with the ability to professionally accommodate changes to deadlines or work demands on short notice, tight time pressures, and competing priorities.
- Proven ability to professionally handle confidential information and exercise good judgement in the interpretation and application of instructions and organization policy.
- Demonstrated team leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and engage with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders, at all levels of seniority.
- Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and collaboratively, and in an advisory capacity, and liaise effectively with a wide and diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, providing satisfactory documentation upon request.
- Ability to work both remotely and onsite, abiding by organization health and safety policies.
- Ability to declare personal Non-Conflict of Interest in execution of assignment responsibilities.
- Ability to complete a satisfactory Provincial Government security check, prior to assignment start. Please note that Marberg will reimburse for the cost of the security checks upon confirmation of assignment start and submission of approved expense receipts.
- Provision of certification of AODA and OHSA online training course completion prior to assignment start.
- Additional satisfactory Background Checks, Technical Skills Evaluations, and Employment References as required.
