Job Description POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY: The role will provide intentional, directed, spiritual care for residents. The position will organize and facilitate spiritual formation and spirituality-based classes and groups, including Christin programing. The Chaplain will provide Christian leadership in planning, directing, coordinating assist with residents and staff with a range of duties as assigned.
Accountabilities The successful candidate will be responsible for performing various chaplaincy duties which include, but not limited to:
- Plan & coordinate regular sharing circles, chapel services, morning reflections, Bible studies and various groups to address particular emotional or spiritual themes i.e. grief and loss, trauma, identity.
- Develop and maintain therapeutic one to one connection with residents and program participants etc.
- Some flexibility in hours required i.e. evenings, weekends and holidays
- Participate in development of chaplaincy programming.
- Develop and maintain connections with other spiritual care providers working in similar settings.
- Participate as an active member of Edmonton Centre of Hope case management teams
- Conduct funerals and memorial services as required.
- Respond in chaplaincy role to emergencies and crises, may be asked to lead debriefing sessions.
- Chart and document in various data management systems. Provide weekly and monthly statistics/reports as required
- The ability to provide spiritual care to those who live with a faith tradition that is not one’s own
- Awareness of and engagement in matters such as trauma informed care, cultural diversity and sensitivity, spiritual matters impacting vulnerable populations
- Be familiar with Center Policies and Procedures and ensure they are followed and put into practice. Assist with the development of Policies and Procedures specific to the Chaplaincy Program as necessary.
Managerial Responsibility
- This position reports directly to Manager of Spiritual Care.
- This position has no direct reports
Financial And Materials Management
- Maintain confidential files and reports of clients.
- Maintain a pool of resources with other community services for easy accessibility by the residents.
Working Conditions
- The Salvation Army Edmonton Centre of Hope is a smoke free and scent sensitive workplace.
- The performance of the job requires a moderate amount of standing, sitting, walking, assisting clients, intervening in client confrontations.
- The incumbent will be required to work at multiple sites; access to transportation will be required.
- The incumbent’s work environment is typically at work sites within residential settings, and may require working under the following disagreeable conditions and will need to follow or use universal precautions:
- Dealing with angry and abusive people, verbal abuse
- Exposure to bodily fluids, bodily waste, and infectious diseases
- Exposure to drugs, alcohol, and solvents
- Physical attacks by others
- Exposure to toxic chemicals
- Sharp objects (i.e., needle sticks, knives, and weapons)
- Other dangerous situations
- Immunization for Hepatitis B and vaccination against Tuberculosis
Education And Experience Qualifications Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- Must be a High School graduate.
- Must be ordained and have Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) or equivalent.
- An alternative level of education and experience in Pastoral Care/Chaplaincy may be considered.
Experience And Skilled Knowledge Requirements
- At least 2 years' experience in Pastoral Care and /or Chaplaincy preferably in a social services setting as well as experience dealing with mental health issues, substance use, addictions, death, dying, incarceration and family issues.
This is a Full-Time position.
Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Hours
Target hiring range for this position per annum is Min $57,399.98 - Mid $71,749.97 - Max $$86,099.96
Compensation The target hiring range for this position is $27.60 to $34.50 with a maximum of $41.39.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
