About the role
Working with one of the top financial clients, this role calls for a Legal Manager - Merger & Acquisitions who will provide oversight, legal advice and support to the client’s senior management in M&A. This candidate will identify key legal risks and appropriate ways to mitigate them, ensuring awareness among relevant stakeholders and other members of the client’s Legal Department.
Responsibilities:
- Manage external legal costs prudently through optimal use of internal and external resources
- Proactive identification, management and escalation of legal risk for the Bank's M&A programs in Canada, the United States and globally
- Proactive legal guidance in all matters related to public company requirements, corporate governance and disclosure
- Provide strategic and tactical direction and advice to client’s executives, as well as within the Legal Department
- Anticipate emerging issues and translate business and organizational challenges into sustainable deployment strategies
- Negotiate and influence, internally and externally, with latitude on outcomes
Desired Skill Set:
- 5 years of Merger & Acquisition Experience in Commercial Banking, Treasury Management and Small Business apps
- 5 years of experience in the Legal / law industry
- 5 years of expertise in Risk Assessment
- Comfort with ambiguity & strong relationship management skills to navigate a complex/diverse organization
- Law degree from an accredited law school and qualified to practice law in Ontario
