About the role

GCT is the operator of the largest container terminal in the country and one of the largest employers in the maritime sector. We are the major entry point for international trade in Canada, totaling over $2 billion in economic output each year. We offer rewarding opportunities for team-oriented individuals who thrive in a fast-paced environment that are accountable, innovative, and driven to achieve challenging goals.  We have an opportunity for a 15-18 month contract Operations Support position within our Operations Support Department at our Head Office location in Vancouver, with hybrid working arrangements.

Key Responsibilities

 

Reporting to the Manager, Operations Support you will be responsible for acting as a bridge between the customer and the operations team by providing the customer with requested information.

General Duties

  • Responding to telephone and email inquiries from steamship lines, customs brokers, trucking companies, and internal GCT Canada team members.
  • Communicating information/changes to internal and external customers.
  • Resolving gate related problems in accordance with established procedures.
  • Problem solving.
  • Interaction with all levels of GCT Canada personnel including foremen, checkers, superintendents, management.
  • Preparing of import and export vessels.
  • Balancing import and export vessels.
  • Preparing and submitting billing.
  • Preparing and distributing reports.
  • Monitoring reefer readings.
  • Coordinating movement of damaged containers.
  • Preparing documentation for hazardous cargo.
  • Assessing and releasing Canada Customs and Transport Canada exams.

Salary Band

  • $68,808 - $80,472

Requirements

Education & Experience:

You bring a strong understanding of customer service and can proactively develop internal and external customer relationships. You bring the ability to anticipate and provide solutions to customer needs, and as well as strong computer skills with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook. 

You also bring strong organizational skills with ability to work in a self-directed manner. You have excellent attention to detail and consistently check processes and tasks for accuracy and completeness. You work well in a team-oriented environment and can work effectively with a team or work group to accomplish goals. 

 

These capabilities have typically been developed through 2 – 3 years of experience in a customer service operations role or a combination of education, training, and experience in a related discipline. A minimum of 1 year experience in container terminal shipping is required. Preference will be given to those with Navis experience. Shift assignment flexibility and occasional overtime is required.
