Position Status: Full Time (40 hours/week), One Year Contract

With a decentralized network of 9 METI-Service Centres, a Corporate Head Office in Edmonton, and two mobile service units; RLI designs and delivers training and education services to more than 140,000 Alberta Métis.

The Opportunity

Rupertsland Institute is recruiting for an MTE Advisor to support Métis clients in achieving long-term, sustainable employment in Calgary. Reporting to the Regional Manager, the successful candidate will conduct employment assessments and case manage interventions for Métis individuals. This includes supporting clients through job searches, career decision-making, skill enhancement, and overcoming potential barriers to employment. The MTE Advisor will also advise clients on eligibility for Métis-specific programs and other relevant services, ensuring accurate and up-to-date client records. This position is a great fit for someone who possesses strong communication skills, cultural awareness, and passion for empowering individuals to overcome potential barriers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build a strong rapport with clients to assess strengths, needs, career goals, and potential barriers to employment.

  • Guide clients through available RLI services, funding options, and eligibility for employment programs, including disability support if applicable.

  • Help clients research labour market trends, set career goals, develop individualized action plans, and secure sustainable employment.

  • Provide ongoing support during interventions and maintain regular contact to track progress and resolve issues.

  • Help clients find employment after completing an intervention and monitor their employment outcomes.

  • Coach clients on job search and interview skills.

  • Maintain accurate client data in the system, including assessments, career plans, and outcomes.

  • Actively market RLI projects and services, and present information to various stakeholders as required.

  • Participate in regional planning and strategy discussions.

  • Collaborate with Métis organizations, community agencies, and employers to promote RLI services.

  • Attend meetings, career fairs, and other events including but not limited to RLI evens, information fairs, and community activities to support RLI programs within the Indigenous/Métis community.

  • Other duties as required or assigned.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of the social, economic, and cultural challenges faced by Indigenous individuals, particularly Métis communities.

  • Familiarity with labour market trends, including supply and demand, and the ability to apply this knowledge in guiding clients.

  • Knowledge of education programs, institutions, and occupational requirements to support clients in making informed career decisions.

  • Strong communication skills with excellent verbal, written, and listening abilities to effectively document and provide information to clients, staff, and external agencies.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport, assess non-verbal cues, and create a safe and comfortable environment for clients.

  • Ability to handle challenging situations professionally and resolve conflicts effectively.

  • Strong case management and organizational skills to manage a high caseload, meet deadlines, and balance multiple tasks efficiently.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.

  • Knowledge of privacy legislation (FOIP, PIPA) and commitment to confidentiality and ethical standards.

  • Cultural sensitivity and awareness, including an understanding of Métis culture and social, economic, and employment barriers faced by Indigenous individuals.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Explorer) and willingness to learn new software programs.

  • Experience in non-profit or Indigenous organizations is an asset.

Qualifications:

  • Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Humanities, Career Development, Social Services or related field.

  • Minimum of 3 year’s experience in a similar role related to employment services.

  • Knowledge of education programs/institutions and community resources providing support to clients with barriers.

  • Experience or exposure networking with industry, employers and community partners.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to work a regular schedule of 8:30am-4:30pm Monday to Friday.

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, as required.

  • Ability to travel throughout Alberta, as required.

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

  • Submission of a clear Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check.
