Reporting to the QC Manager, the Environmental Compliance Coordinator will be responsible for providing support to management and employees while implementing environmental plan, ensuring environmental compliance, maintaining environmental data and metrics, and submitting environmental data reports.
Responsibilities:
- Ensuring environmental compliance obligations on the project are being completed
- Identifying, assessing, and reducing environmental risks to the project
- Providing updated information to the Project Director regarding environmental plans
- Performing field inspections and monitoring (e.g., water quality (pH & turbidity), ESC installations (e.g., surface water)
- Ensuring that identified sensitive environmental areas have the required protection and fencing installations before construction activities
- Performing data tracking of sustainability metrics tracking spreadsheet for procurement, construction materials, recycled materials, carbon management and waste management for submission and review by the project Sustainability coordinator
- Maintaining project data tracking requirements for waste register, environmental inspections, and incident corrective action log
- Functioning as on-site advisor and coordinator for environmental issues
- Ensuring the application of environmental specifications as identified of IFC drawings to minimize adverse effects/impacts to the natural environment
- Attending field visits with the client and regulatory agencies
- Liaising with the HSE Manager & Project Manager in providing them information, schedule details, quantities etc. ensuring they are aware of any unanticipated discoveries, critical permitting, and compliance issues
Requirements
- Minimum Undergraduate Degree in an Environmental Science or Engineering Field
- Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP) designation is preferred
- Must be a CPESC Certified professional in Erosion and Sediment Control or Certified Erosion, Sediment and Storm Water Inspector (CESSWI)
- 2+ years of experience in environmental compliance for large construction projects ideally in infrastructure
- Working knowledge of Provincial and Federal environmental legislation
- Bilingual (an asset), but proficiency in English language with excellent communication skills (written and verbal) is required
- Excellent communication & interpersonal skills
- Ability to establish relationships and work within a team
- Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative
- Strong work ethic & integrity, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time
- Ability to work independently to meet deadlines, goals and objectives
- Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail & ability to meet tight deadlines
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies
