Why is this role important?

The Digital Content Specialist is a role that combines creativity and data-literacy to bring our health information to life for broader public audiences. This role supports the development and execution of digital content strategies around CIHI’s analytic reports and organizational initiatives. The primary focus is to translate complex health data into clear, compelling, and engaging digital content across CIHI’s channels with the goal of helping our audiences better understand the current state of Canada’s health care systems and make informed decisions on how to make critical improvements in the way health care is delivered to Canadians.

Equal parts content producer and storyteller, the Digital Content Specialist role requires a strong understanding of the Canadian health system, excellent writing and digital production skills, and the ability to represent CIHI on-camera in short explainer videos and social content. Fluency in French is required.

What you'll do

  1. Translates complex health data into clear, engaging content (in both official languages) that resonates with a general audience while maintaining accuracy and integrity.

  2. Advises and collaborates with teams across CIHI to develop and execute digital content strategies for priority analytic products, collaborating with both data and production teams to coordinate materials around analytic releases of varying sizes.

  3. Develops and executes digital content strategies to support priority analytic releases, working closely with both analytics and communications teams.

  4. Produces high-quality multimedia content, including photographs, videos social posts and web copy for use on social media channels, tailored to CIHI’s key audiences and platforms.

  5. Stays on top of latest social media and digital communications trends and brings new ideas to amplify CIHI’s reach and engagement.

  6. Works closely with the Digital Communications Lead, the Communications Team and other groups across the organization to provide editorial guidance, ensuring clarity, accessibility, and alignment with CIHI’s voice and tone.

  7. Provides advice and assistance to analytical team members around best practices in digital communications, user-centered storytelling, plain language writing, and accessibility.

  8. Supports bilingual content delivery where applicable and contribute to a strong, consistent digital presence in both English and French.

  9. Provides regular status updates to the Digital Communications Lead.

What you'll bring to the table

• A university degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Health or a related field, or equivalent experience, is required.

• 3+ years’ experience in a communications, journalism or content production role with a strong focus on simplifying complex information for broad audiences.

• Experience and advanced understanding of social media, with expertise on LinkedIn, Facebook, X (formerly known as Twitter), and Instagram and how to optimize content for each.

• Demonstrated understanding of the Canadian health care system and experience working with health data or public health issues.

• Strong on-camera communication skills and ability to represent an organization publicly.

• Advanced writing and storytelling abilities across formats (long-form, short-form, scripts, social copy).

• Experience producing multimedia content for digital platforms — including video, graphics, photography, and audio.

• Understanding of UX, personas and the value of developing content to suit specific user needs.

• Ability to adapt to a continuously and rapidly changing environment.

• Outstanding organizational skills with the ability to multitask.

• Strong collaboration skills, in particular around problem solving.

• Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and engagement skills across all levels of the organization.

• Sound judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

• Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), email and Outlook. Experience with design or video editing software is an asset.

• Fluency in both official languages (English and French) is required.
