About the role

Your Opportunity:

The Halvar Jonson Centre for Brain Injury is a 48-bed facility that provides care for patients with acquired brain injury through an interdisciplinary approach. The Program is a progressive and expanding service with a commitment to professional development and excellence. Within the Program, reporting to a Unit Manager, you will participate in the delivery of quality care. This is a physically demanding position that requires you to assist with ADL’s including toileting, bathing, dressing, transferring, re-positioning, escorting patients to and from programs, managing behavioural patients as a result of their brain injury among other duties. Complex moderate to severe brain injury patients may be very dependent at time for care needs. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Description:

As a Psychiatric Aide, you will work as a collaborative member of the multi-disciplinary team to meet the personal care needs and comforts of patients in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs as well as assist with organized activities or programs. In this position, you will observe and report on a patient¿s mood, health, well-being, maintain effective communication with patients and health professionals, assist with the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors as well as assist in the general support of the work area.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12. A combination of education and experience satisfactory to the employer will also be considered.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Sound observation and communication skills, a positive attitude and the ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary psychiatric and rehabilitation setting. Able to handle the physical demands of the position and perform duties that involve periods of standing, walking, bending, turning, lifting weight up to 25 kg and transferring adult patients. Ability to provide basic patient care and comfort required. Able to provide cognitive, social, emotional and psychological support to the patient/family. Maintains a standard of high-quality care, self-directed and motivated. Actively integrates Patient and Family Centered Care principles into practice. Demonstrates behaviors consistent with safety. Maintain patient/family confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications:

Greater than six months of experience in working with stroke and brain injured patients is desired. Direct experience in an inpatient neuro rehabilitation setting is an asset. To ensure your skills and qualifications are considered please attach a resume and cover letter with your application.
