Reporting to the School Principal, the Ilinniarvimmi Inuusiliriji is the community resource person and student advocate who supports, promotes, and involves students, parents, and the community as partners in Education. As an active member of the education staff and School Team, the Ilinniarvimmi Inuusiliriji provides a liaison between the community, home, school and the student. The Ilinniarvimmi Inuusiliriji also provides support and guidance to students, promotes the relevance of education in the community and fosters mutual understanding between the community and the school leading to self-fulfillment and success in life.

The Ilinniarvimmi Inuusiliriji facilitates communication links between the classroom, family, community and student and establishes and maintains a good rapport with all students, staff and parents. The Ilinniarvimmi Inuusiliriji supports students, supports parental engagement, and participates in the on-going work of the Community Interagency Committee as assigned by the Prinicpal. The Ilinniarvimmi Inuusiliriji also works with school staff, parents and/or an interagency team to develop culturally appropriate support strategies for students and acts as an interpreter in situations as directed.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through completion of Grade 12 or of Adult Basic Education (ABE) equivalent to Grade 12 or higher; along with five (5) or more years of experience working at the community level. Ilinniarvimmi Inuusiliriji should also have a First Aid certificate, as well as completion of the Suicide Prevention training (ASIST) and Mental Health First Aid Training . This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
