Job Summary
Provides speech and language services including assessment and treatment to children under 5 years of age with the aim of normalizing or enhancing the child’s communication.
Job Specific Responsibilities
- Performs formal or informal assessments.
- Develop treatment plans.
- Recheck/reassess as per program protocols.
- Provide regular, direct (group or individual) therapy.
- Demonstration of key aspects of treatment.
- Follow-up with families as required to implement, review, update or alter the treatment plan.
- Prepare treatment summaries and progress reports.
- Prepare discharge summary and consultation with appropriate parties.
- Initiate and follow-up transition process as required.
- Direct the work of the Communicative Disorders Assistant
- Participate in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of treatment, education, and health promotion programs and services for individuals, families and the community.
- Schedule clients.
- Forwards appropriate post-encounter information to First Words program.
- SLPs in bilingual positions are expected to work in both official languages, the volume of which may fluctuate from time to time – i.e. more Francophone clients than Anglophone.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or equivalent.
- Experience working with the preschool population.
- Current CASLPO registration.
- Bilingualism (English and French) is preferred.
- Successful completion of HANEN, It Takes Two to Talk and/or More Than Words trainings preferred.

In 1979 we opened our doors with 4 staff. Today, we have over 347 full and part time employees serving our local community and over 400 volunteers.
