About the role
About you: We are seeking a highly skilled Part Design & Tool Design Engineer to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing complex plastic and metal components, developing tooling concepts, and supporting manufacturing from concept through production. The role requires strong proficiency in SolidWorks and CATIA , with a solid understanding of injection molding, tooling, and DFM/DFA principles .
What you’ll do:
- Design and develop 3D and 2D CAD models of components, assemblies, and injection molding tools using SolidWorks and preferably CATIA.
- Knowledge of injection molding tool designs.
- Designing molded parts PMMA and PC materials.
- Deep knowledge of boolean operations.
- Clear understanding of assembly level parametric design.
- Pre built template experience.
- Macro experience is a plus.
- Drafting, part, generative shape, assembly, drawing,
- considering tooling aspects throughout development,
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality, and suppliers, to ensure parts and tools meet functional, cost, and timeline requirements.
- Perform tolerance stack-up analysis and ensure designs comply with GD&T standards.
- Conduct DFM/DFA (Design for Manufacturing/Assembly) reviews to optimize part and tool designs.
- Experience leading design reviews.
- PLM experience: SW PDM, Siemens PLM, and or 3DX PLM
- Generate and maintain engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation.
- Building internal engineering documentation.
- Tool validation and troubleshooting during prototype and production runs is a plus.
- Assist in root cause analysis and problem-solving for part and tool-related issues.
- Stay up to date with industry standards and best practices for injection molding.
What you’ll need:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 2+ years of experience in part design and tooling for injection-molded, cast, or machined components.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks and CATIA V5/V6 (3DEXPERIENCE preferred but not required).
- Knowledge of injection molding processes, tool steel selection, and mold design fundamentals.
- Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and mechanical design principles.
- Experience with product lifecycle management (PLM) systems (ENOVIA or similar).
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Bonus points for:
- Experience with supplier interactions and tool shops for quoting and tool builds.
- Familiarity with FEA or structural analysis tools (optional).
- Background in medical devices and familiarity with cGMP and regulatory standards such as ISO13485
