As a Trades Foreman you will be responsible for a wide range of duties included in the day to day operation of a full cost recovery Municipal Auto Body operation, while promoting the Business Unit and The City of Calgary's goals, objectives and values. Primary duties include:

  • Coordinate all the activities of trades, service personnel, and apprentices assigned to multiple shifts in the Auto Body area and work with intern and external customers and vendors.
  • Monitor work performed for quality and productivity of staff on various shifts and maintain complete and accurate records of work performed, time and labour approval, attendance, vacation, etc. for Auto Body staff.
  • Liaise with Technical Services, Maintenance Shop, Commissioning, and Manufacturing related to auto body activities conducted for Fleet and Inventory.
  • Responsible for staff, facilities, shop clean up, safe work practices, hazard assessments, equipment maintenance, productivity.
  • Participate in employee contribution review, and training of staff, document performance issues, perform probationary review and orientation for new hires and initiate disciplinary action as necessary in accordance with established policies.
  • Keep updated on technical advances in auto body practices and legislative requirements for National Safety Mark and other related standards.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent (e.g. GED).
  • A Journeyman Trades certificate as a Journeyman; Auto Body Technician with an equivalent Interprovincial Red Seal (recognized by Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training).
  • At least 5 years of experience as a Journeyman including 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Standard First Aid certificate.
  • Must have completed a Management Certificate or Blue Seal.
  • Valid Class 3 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with Q endorsement will be an asset
  • Previous experience with PeopleSoft Human Capital Management (HCM) and M5 would be considered assets.
  • Success in this position requires the ability to multi-task, strong communication skills and organization.
  • Must be customer service orientated, possess good interpersonal skills, and have effective decision-making ability.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in a repair shop with exposure to hazards such as dust, dirt, chemicals, exhaust fumes and noise.

Pre-employment Requirements

  • Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.

Location: 651 25 Avenue SE

Compensation: $54.18 per hour

Out-of-Schedule Rate: $57.55 per hour
This position is presently paid at an Out-of-Schedule rate to reflect current market conditions. Should market conditions change, the salary may be reviewed and may revert to the base rate

Days of Work: This position works Monday to Thursday 5.30 am to 4.00 pm.

Hours of work: Non-Standard 42 hour work week
