About the role

Stoney Education Authority (SEA) is seeking a compassionate and skilled Elementary School Counselor to support the academic, social-emotional, and personal development of students in our K–6 schools. This position will play a key role in building trusting relationships, fostering resilience, and providing early intervention services within a culturally grounded, trauma-informed framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counseling for students with social, emotional, or behavioral needs.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to identify and respond to student mental health concerns.
  • Promote wellness and safe learning environments through school-wide initiatives and classroom support.
  • Develop and lead proactive mental health strategies tailored to young learners.
  • Build strong, respectful relationships with students, families, and staff rooted in cultural understanding.
  • Refer students to external mental health and social services as appropriate and support ongoing follow-up.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in School Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Current registration with a professional association (e.g., CAP, ACSW).
  • Experience working in school settings, ideally with Indigenous students and communities.
  • Knowledge of child development, trauma-informed practice, and culturally responsive care.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

About Stoney Education Authority

Primary and Secondary Education

Provides K-12 education for Stoney children on Eden Valley, Morley and Bighorn reserves.

The Stoney Education Authority headquarters are based on the Morley Reserve. It is controlled and funded by the Chiefs in Council via the Stoney Tribal Administration.

There are currently three schools, with a fourth primary school being built next to Morley Community School in Morley, Alberta.
