Are you passionate about fostering innovation and empowering the next generation of entrepreneurs? The Mawji Centre for New Venture and Student Entrepreneurship, part of the renowned JR Shaw School of Business at NAIT, is seeking a dynamic and motivated Entrepreneurship Engagement Advisor to support student entrepreneurship through innovative programming, events, and personalized mentorship.

The Mawji Centre provides entrepreneurship support for all NAIT students through engaging, experiential programs and activities. In this student-facing role, you will guide and mentor aspiring entrepreneurs as they progress from "I have an idea" to "I am ready to launch." You will work closely with the Mawji Centre team to deliver impactful programming, foster student engagement, and create a vibrant, collaborative environment where entrepreneurial thinking thrives.

The Entrepreneurship Engagement Advisor plays a central role in creating an engaging and dynamic space for students pursuing business ventures. Reporting to the Manager of the Mawji Centre, this role leads the Student Volunteer Venture Program, provides one-on-one mentorship, assists with operational support, and fosters meaningful connections between students, mentors, and the innovation community. The Advisor also supports Centre events and initiatives that promote student engagement and entrepreneurial development.

Key Responsibilities:

As the Entrepreneurship Engagement Advisor, you will play a key role in supporting student entrepreneurs and fostering a culture of innovation at NAIT. You will lead the Student Volunteer Venture Program, providing students with meaningful, hands-on experiences that build their entrepreneurial skills and community engagement. In addition, you will offer direct mentorship to students at all stages of their business journey, connecting them to resources, guiding them through startup development, and helping them grow their ideas into viable ventures. You will also support the Mawji Centre’s events and initiatives by coordinating speaker sessions, workshops, and campus engagement activities. This role requires someone who can build strong relationships, serve as a welcoming first point of contact for walk-in students, and collaborate closely with the Manager and team to deliver innovative programming that aligns with the Centre’s goals.

Primary Duties:

Student Volunteer Venture Program

  • Recruit, train, and coordinate student volunteers.
  • Track student hours and stats.
  • Provide recognition through volunteer appreciation initiatives.
  • Oversee volunteer program and involvement in events and Centre initiatives.

Mawji Centre Engagement and Operations

  • Deliver presentations and host information / promotional booths.
  • Assist with planning and logistics for events, workshops, and guest speakers.
  • Track participation and provide reports on programming effectiveness.
  • Connect with and engage external mentors.
  • Provide general support to the Manager.

Student Entrepreneur Support

  • Offer mentoring and guidance to students developing business ideas or growing existing ventures.

  • Recommend and design strategies / programs that respond to student needs.

  • Build strong, lasting relationships that foster a culture of entrepreneurship on campus.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Deep understanding of entrepreneurship, startup life cycles, and available supports.

  • Strong leadership and program coordination skills, particularly in a volunteer context.

  • Exceptional interpersonal communication; able to relate to diverse students, faculty, and external stakeholders.

  • Independent, self-motivated, and highly organized.

  • Comfortable speaking publicly and representing the Centre in classrooms and events.

  • Creative and solutions-focused, with the ability to identify opportunity in student ideas.

  • Familiarity with the Edmonton business and innovation ecosystem is an asset.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, social media platforms, and digital tools such as Canva.

Qualifications:

  • Related post-secondary diploma in business, entrepreneurship, volunteer management, or a related field is preferred.

  • At least 2 years of experience leading volunteer programs or working in the nonprofit/education sectors.

  • 3 years of experience mentoring clients or students in business development, ideation, or startup processes.

  • Experience with event planning, student engagement, and program delivery.

  • Knowledge of startup operations including licensing, compliance, and taxation.

  • Equivalencies may be considered

Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).

Remuneration: $56,878.43 - $76,298.35 annually (based on 29 hours per week), plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification – Advisor/Specialist ll).

This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
