Functional Summary The Business Development and Marketing Manager provides coordination, administration and execution on sales of new construction, aggregate and asphalt sales business opportunities for Standard General Calgary (SGC). This position ensures that all its initiatives are aligned with the company’s strategic plan, and there is collaboration with the pre-construction, manufacturing, and construction functions on plans and execution. Main Responsibilities Industry Analysis & Growth Analyze local market trends and determine the SGC approach related to market and competitor positions. Prepare and deliver reports on the status of all marketing, research, and sales initiatives and programs to SGC management committee. Utilize Colas systems business development database that includes client and prospect information, proposal tracking and follow-up, analysis of competition, and performance metrics. Responsibility for SGC Marketing materials, website, social media presence etc. to support the value proposition and reputation of SGC and linkage into Colas. Coordinate and participate in promotional events. Represent SGC positively at internal and external events. Customer Engagement Participate in developing a process to gather continuous feedback from clients to continuously improve our business processes and execution. Developing customer specific engagement approaches to maintain and grow relationships. Budgeting And Cost Management Responsible for developing and reviewing sales numbers for formal budget meetings and month-ends. Have a deep understanding the overall business budget, work on hand, capacities and capabilities to ensure sales efforts match business requirements. Responsible for requesting credit limits and working with Divisional Manager Manufacturing to ensure customer credit limits are not exceeded. Effectively manage and improve DSO (Days Sales Outstanding) and work the Controller to implement action plans as required. Employee Engagement And Retention Oversee the day-to-day management of a junior marketing (contract or staff) and sales support personnel (likely 1 sales individual). Work with the HR Business Partner to support action plans to improve the Company’s DE&I measures. Promote the employee engagement survey (Dialogue) and support the HR Business Partner and Dialogue Committee in meeting action plans. Ensure communications to employees regarding Company standing is coordinated with the SGC management committee and aligned with the Colas values. Qualifications Education, Training and Certifications Post-secondary degree with a major in Business Administration, Business Development, or Marketing or equivalent experience. Class 5 driver’s license, in good standing. Work Experience At least 8 years’ experience in executing business development strategies, marketing and customer engagement. At least 3 years of supervisory responsibilities. Experience in the civil construction market within the Greater Calgary area. Technical Skills Demonstrated leadership skills. Possess solid communication and problem solving skills with an attention to detail. Possess good organizational skills and is able to work independently. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines. Intermediate proficiency with the following MS Office applications is considered an asset: Microsoft Office, JDE and SharePoint. Knowledge of software such as Explorer or JDE, considered an asset. Strong Social Media skills across various platforms. Knowledge of business development and marketing. Strong research skills and mathematical abilities. Requirements
