About the role
Job Summary
The Director, Communications is responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of the university`s internal and public facing communications, and public relations management. The role directs the efforts of internal and external communications and public relations, and coordinates at the strategic and tactical level with senior administration, department managers, faculty and staff to ensure alignment of all communication strategies with the Integrated Strategic Plan.
The Director provides leadership and demonstrates organizational awareness, collegiality, and sound decision making in ensuring all aspects of communications and public relations serve to advance the University of the Fraser Valley’s Goals and Mission. This position builds and maintains internal and external relationships, and leads communications staff to enhance UFV’s reputation through communications, and public relations.
Qualifications
Masters’ degree from an appropriately accredited institution, preferably in marketing or communications. Seven (7) years’ of progressive experience in related positions, with at least five (5) years direct supervision of a marketing/communications based team serving a complex, multi-focused organization (preference for post-secondary education experience) Exceptional understanding of and skill in reputation management, branding principles, communications, and public relations techniques and concepts Demonstrated capacity to manage multiple high-visibility projects simultaneously Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills; strong team building and relationship building skills Proven leadership, project management, and administrative capabilities, including hiring, performance evaluations and disciplinary decisions Commitment and ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse constituents
