Welcome to Sxoxomic Community School! We are located 50 km southwest of Williams Lake in Alkali Lake, BC. Sxoxomic Community School enrolls 63 students from kindergarten to Grade 9. We pride ourselves on creating a unique, student- centered learning environment that embraces Secwepemc values as the foundation for grades K4-10. We promote holistic development that nurtures growth academically, spiritually, emotionally and physically. Students and families are also welcomed into a dynamic and supportive learning community that extends outside of the classroom walls.
**Term of Employment: ******
- Hours and wages to be determined by qualifications
- Additional hours (included in contract) may be required at the discretion of the Education Director/Principal
- Inclusive of meetings, supervision and planning required for exemplary teaching and support of the school's instructional programs. Inclusive of all school Professional Days (Pro-D Days) and Staff Meetings.
- Inclusive of special events, special supervision or planning and special meetings required to support cultural and instructional programs outside of the regular work hours
- Contract amount to be paid bi-weekly; hourly wage based on experience and classification
- Additional Contract Benefits based on the Esk'etemc Benefits Package including:

**The Role (Responsibilities): ******
- Plan and teach daily TPR (oral) Secwepemc Language and Culture Program, K-9
- Assess, evaluate and report on student progress
- Follow locally developed Secwepemc curriculum for Kindergarten to Grade 9
- Develop short and long term (overview) plans for school's language and culture program
- Develop and support school-based Secwepemc cultural activities, events and opportunities
- Participate in and support schools' Secwepemc drumming and singing program
- Extend the school's language and culture program (promote community and family involvement)
- Provide a year plan and thematic cultural unit plans around the Secwepemc seasonal calendar
- Work alongside the school team to integrate language and cultural content across the curriculum as well as facilitate fluent speakers into school programs
**What we require: **
- Positive, enthusiastic, energetic and team-spirited teacher
- Knowledge and understanding of Secwepemc communities, culture values and practices
- Classroom teaching experience or related experience
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents and community
- The personal qualities necessary to encourage learning
- Experience working with or willingness to work with and planning for students with unique learning needs
- Successful experience enabling all students to learn successfully
- The ability to establish a positive and relaxed learning environment with high expectations for all learners
- Proven ability to establish a positive and proactive classroom management system
- The ability to set goals for self-development and to embrace change
- Regular professional development and training opportunities to improve teaching practices. Participate in First Nation School Association (FNSA) Professional Learning Community meetings, if available.
- Participate in supervision of students, before and after school, during recess and lunch and on field trips ****
- Knowledge of First Nations Culture and working in a First Nations community is an asset****
- Criminal Record Check for working with Vulnerable Sector is required****
- Has valid BC Driver's License (Class 5) or N****
**Necessary Qualifications: ******
- Valid BC Teacher's Certificate****
- Bachelor of Education Degree****
- TQS Certification, Category 5 or Higher****
- Active membership with BC College of Teachers****
