About the role
We require the talent of a Senior Safety Specialist to join our team. This position establishes, supports and monitors compliance, safety policies and programs to promote our commitment to a safe and productive workplace. Lead health and safety initiatives that promote a positive safety culture where people have the right knowledge and the right attitude.
Shift: Monday – Friday, Day shift. May be required to work flexible hours
Drive safety culture, values and activities:
Manage workplace accident and incident program(s) and associated corrective action/counter measure(s); Disability management –WSIB claims; develop & monitor return to work plans & related accommodation; Program Management - develop, implement and facilitate training programs related to the development of new and revised safety initiatives; Leader of Safety program and improvement initiatives with Excellence in Safety Management Consortium program; Training – develop, implement, facilitate and/or coordinate training programs related to H&S, including New Hire Orientation, Mobile Equipment, WHMIS, CSE, Respirator Fit, Working at Heights, Lock Out, Emergency Evacuations, Work Refusals, etc.; Joint Health and Safety – management co-chair and coordinator of all associated activities;
Develop and implement safety policies and initiatives:
Monitor, coordinate, implement and administer health and safety programs/policies related to current and future legislation and best practices to satisfy due diligence and compliance requirements; Create annual safety calendar, identifying training requirements, safety topics and related safety audits; Perform hazard/risk assessments and make recommendations to reduce hazard exposure.
Monitor the effectiveness of Safety programs:
Perform monthly KPI management related to accident trending analysis; Participate in and coordinate safety assessments, audits, inspections and hygiene monitoring.
IDEAL CANDIDATES:
7+ years of related experience within manufacturing Post-secondary education in health and safety Experience with the Ministry of Labour, as well as WSIB reporting and claims management; Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to impact and influence a passion for safety; Effective problem solving and decision making skills with strong organizational ability; Strong sense of urgency who works well under pressure and reacts to stressful situations with professionalism.
