Refrigeration Mechanic (HVAC), Gas Fitter ‘B'
The workload for this position is eight (8) hours per day, being forty (40) hours per week, twelve (12) months of the year and may include shift work.
Pay Grade 11 – Job #1134 – $40.00 per hour
Full-Time Refrigeration Mechanic (HVAC), Gas Fitter ‘B'

Position Summary
Install, repair, service, and maintain heating, gas, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems and associated controls. This position may be required to start work at various project locations and must ensure all work is performed to School District standards. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly workplace, tools, and equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities
**HVAC & Refrigeration Systems **
- install, repair, maintain, and modify heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and gas systems and equipment, including boilers, chillers, heat pumps, air handling units, and associated controls;
- perform combustion analysis testing on boilers and HVAC equipment;
- service and troubleshoot direct digital control (DDC) systems and hydronic heating systems;
- perform routine inspection and preventative maintenance;
- handle, recover, and record refrigerants in accordance with regulatory requirements;
- estimate material requirements;
- purchase supplies and materials;
- ensure WHMIS and safety regulations are followed.
Maintenance
- perform general maintenance duties using a variety of trade skills as required.
Communication
- communicate effectively with students, staff, contractors, and others.
Applicants must have:
- completed Grade 12;
- a B.C. or Interprovincial Trade Qualification in a recognized refrigeration, mechanical, or electrical trade;
- Class B Gas Fitter Certificate with Electrical Endorsement (EE);
- demonstrated experience working with direct digital controls and hydronic heating systems;
- demonstrated ability to perform combustion analysis testing on boilers and HVAC equipment;
- Environment Canada certification in CFC/HCFC/HFC control, including a valid refrigerant handling certificate number issued by HRAI Canada;
- a valid B.C. Driver's License;
- completed required Health & Safety training;
- demonstrated training and work experience in current B.C. construction and maintenance safety requirements and WorkSafeBC regulations.

- a self-starter;
- computer literate.

The following would be considered an asset:
- two (2) years' experience at a journeyman level in maintenance or construction practices and procedures in a commercial environment;
- Class A Gas Fitter Certificate;
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate;
- Fall Protection Certificate or training;
- Confined Space Entry Certificate or training;
- First Aid Level 2 Certificate.
