Museum Interpreter (Indigenous)Competition No: 2025-MIDuration: AuxiliarySalary: $30.39 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefitsLast Updated: 4/24/26The City of Burnaby is currently seeking auxiliary Museum Interpreters (Indigenous) for the Burnaby Village Museum. As a part of the programs department, this position assists with interpretation, education, demonstrations, activities, tours and various programs onsite or in the Learning House - the Indigenous Education space. The successful candidate may aid in the development of new programs, as directed, and support the work of the Educators in the Learning House. Museum Interpreters prepare supplies and equipment for programs, and perform related work as required.Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 or equivalent culturally relevant work, supplemented by related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The ideal candidate has experience delivering education programs or is familiar with working with groups of individuals. While having sound knowledge about the local Indigenous Nations and Coast Salish History and Culture is key to this role, there will be opportunity to expand and learn from the Museum Education Programmer and Indigenous Educators. Experience in customer service work or working with the public in a museum or related facilities is preferred. The ability to communicate effectively verbally and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and visitors is required.Location: Burnaby Village MuseumPay Rate: $30.39 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits Hours of work: this is an auxiliary position, hours and shifts are based on operational requirements and do not provide guaranteed hours of work, and may include on-call shifts. Typical shifts vary from 2 - 4 days per week, Monday to Friday between the hours of 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM. Availability for this role includes weekdays, weekends and occasionally evenings. Our season at the Burnaby Village Museum runs from late November to early January, and from May through to early September.
